Wearing masks in the home

Dontknowwhybut · 08/08/2020 17:23

I don't understand why we don't wear masks at home. Given that it is the most likely place to pass it on, and associated witha lot of community transmission, wouldn't it make sense to do this? Obviously there would be issues with enforcing, but why protect strangers and not our families. (if they are protective)

In Belgium they have actually recommended this!

TriciaMcMillan · 08/08/2020 20:14

There's clearly a 'gotcha' the OP is working to on this one, or else it's just bat shit, or a wind up. Meh.

islockdownoveryet · 08/08/2020 20:15

Course they did !!
Just because it's on mumsnet or Facebook it doesn't make it true .
Shakes head and goes off to pour large wine . Hmm

HesterShaw1 · 08/08/2020 20:16

Are you actually having some kind of ill-judged joke?

Wearing a mask in the home? I have never heard of anything more bloody wrong headed and ridiculous. If you want to insulate yourself from your own family, crack on.

Will you wear if while having sex, just out of interest? When kissing your kids good night, or when they come to you for a cuddle if they are upset?

RahRahs · 08/08/2020 20:17

The virus is also transmitted from touching surfaces. Are you suggesting families do not touch each other or anything in their homes? This is utterly bonkers.

I heard it on France 24. And I didn't say I agree with the idea - I think it's crackers!

But if it pleases you to squash me, by all means go ahead.

lovelybittasquirrel · 08/08/2020 20:19

Ok OP.

You wear a mask at home if you wish Grin

Illuyanka · 08/08/2020 20:20

I actually wear mask at home from way before covid. My ds has weak immune system. So I do best not to pass it on to him if I'm ill. We had plenty of stocks of masks and hand sanitizer too.
So, I don't think it's bonkers, if you live with someone vulnerable.

islockdownoveryet · 08/08/2020 20:21

Your obviously as batshit as the op , how am I squashing you ? ,
It's bloody made up !! Think about it .
I'm not sure why I'm even engaging in this madness, just that it's very funny that some people would believe it and then get mad because I don't.

Fairymaryprincess · 08/08/2020 20:26

@dontknowwhybut this isn't going away, at some point we all need to get on with our lives, the initial lock down was to slow the spread of the virus so the NHS could cope, it was never to get rid of it.
I wouldn't comply even if made law to wear one inside my own home and don't know a single other person who would either, also social distancing isn't possible inside a household that would mean no hugging or kissing your children, couples sleeping separately and no intimacy, no holding your child's hand to cross the road etc and I for one do not have space, money or a spare room for for us to all have our own bathroom and bedroom.
Coronavirus has already left so many people struggling with their mental health, this would push a hell of a lot more people into a coffin than the virus itself however if you are wanting a miserable existence crack on with your mask inside your home and cross your fingers your child don't become adults with attachment issues.

Jourdain11 · 08/08/2020 20:27

It was reported on national press! And you are squashing me by implying that I'm a conspiracy theorist (first) and calling me batshit (second). All I did was share something I heard on national TV news, not from Mumsnet or Facebook. Sorry, but it seems like you get kicks from being unpleasant.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/08/2020 20:31
@SueEllenMishke if everyone complied including with your partner for two weeks it would be massively diminished. Two weeks of abstinence could save lives.
Where do you suggest we sleep? We've only got one bedroom. Perhaps one of us should move into to shed.

How do you suggest this is policed OP? Cameras in every house? You're ideas would be considered ridiculous in North Korea or China!

islockdownoveryet · 08/08/2020 20:40

The op is probably pissing herself re this thread and so am I . Hmm

OP.

Put a full gas mask / respirator on and go to bed.

Jourdain11 · 08/08/2020 20:52
@Jourdain11 seriously give your head a wobble and I mean this in the nicest way .
Can you imagine speaking to someone in real life about this . Hmm
I genuinely don't get what you're trying to say.

I have "spoken to people in real life about this". As in, I said "they just reported on the news that Belgium is encouraging people to wear face masks in their houses, isn't that nuts?" and they said, "yeah, that's just too much." Or words to the effect.

How does any of that demonstrate that I need to "give my head a wobble, in the nicest possible way"?

I wouldn't usually bother about this, but I find it depressing how many people at the moment seem to get enjoyment from belittling other people just because they can.

@Jourdain11 I can't decide whether fear of Covid has made people like this or they've always been like this and Covid has given them an excuse to show their true colours. Sadly I suspect it's the latter

islockdownoveryet · 08/08/2020 21:05

Give your head a wobble is referring to the fact that 1- you actually think it's true and 2 you are annoyed with me for disagreeing with you . It's not belittling lovely it's just me not believing. You choose to believe what you want but I'm not sure why you care what I think or take offence it's very odd , that's why I said you were batshit but I'll take that back and apologise for the batshit comment . But I still disagree with your original post but let it go now . Hmm

So as long as we agree with peoples post about being dramatic we are horrible.
Some people need to take a breath calm down and think .
Ffs this thread is about wearing masks as home . And the op is winding you up Hmm

That's wasn't directed at anyone in particular, just an observation. The amount of posts over the last few months shouting people down. I've been called thick and stupid for doing something that was completely within the law but against the MN rules. This pandemic has brought out the best in many people and the worst in a lot of others.

Apologies if you thought this was directed at you @islockdownoveryet

maddiemookins16mum · 08/08/2020 21:18

Crack on Op.

Daisychains20 · 08/08/2020 21:21

Congratulations this is the most craziest post I have ever read! What is more worrying is how you come across with your replies through the thread...if I knew you in person I honestly think I would be keeping a special eye on you to make sure your mental health is okSad

I wasn't present at the government statement, but I believe it is true that it was reported on the news because I heard it Wink

But of course, "recommending" something is very different to saying it's mandatory. The government can say "we recommend that it might be a good idea to do this" but it doesn't mean that anyone will. Nor do they have the right (or the means) to enforce it.

Littleposh · 08/08/2020 21:27

@Dontknowwhybut are you stupid??

Littleposh · 08/08/2020 21:29

And 100% not one person in my household would wear one at home and I highly doubt anyone I know would, rules or law regardless
