Wearing masks in the home

Dontknowwhybut · 08/08/2020 17:23

I don't understand why we don't wear masks at home. Given that it is the most likely place to pass it on, and associated witha lot of community transmission, wouldn't it make sense to do this? Obviously there would be issues with enforcing, but why protect strangers and not our families. (if they are protective)

@Dontknowwhybut

If the law says you must wear masks at all times indoors, then people would do so I think.
People won’t even wear them in shops so like fuck are they going to wear one at home Grin
MashedSpud · 08/08/2020 18:36

Best wear goggles too op.

Or just order a spacesuit and connect it to an oxygen tank.

KitKatastrophe · 08/08/2020 18:37

All women should have s double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer. Short term pain for long term gain.

GabsAlot · 08/08/2020 18:48

pass the crack when youve finished op

elfycat · 08/08/2020 19:03

Has anyone asked if the OP is on glue yet?

The answer is because it's not practicable. The masks would slip or come off at night and then you'd be breathing the same air anyway. Parents will be making meals for children; handling laundry, comforting them, teaching/homeschooling them. The masks are only effective for so long and not so much at close quarters. You would all have to be isolated in houses with not enough rooms to do it. Every surface would need alcohol wiping (sorry dettol wipes are not alcohol wipes, though they are better than nothing and would physically remove virus).

And if you are socially isolating children then you are emotionally abusing them. I have an 11 year old coming up for more hugs and reassurance at the moment. We just sat through a film with her snuggled up against me I wanted to her piss off but that's just the heat today. Masks wouldn't stop us from catching Covid off each other at that range for that time period.

People have been explaining bits of reason to you for a few pages now, but you're still sticking to your point. You're being silly and you know it so please stop with the 'but I think it would work' unless you have a qualification and peer-reviewed scientific articles to share with us.

We’ve all been rubbing along together, multi generational here, through lockdown and beyond. No one working outside of the home, only one other household (of 2) seen now and then for the past month by 2 members of our family, and the people they are visiting (ILs) are just as cautious as we are because of health issues.
Presently, there’s no need.

itsaratrap · 08/08/2020 19:10

(We very much err on the side of caution, have been known to wash the groceries, but even I think that’s just ever so slightly mad! Will rethink if a suitably qualified person proves otherwise).

Noextremes2017 · 08/08/2020 19:11

Is this post for real!

I hope not.

jblue2018 · 08/08/2020 19:19

Aside from the fact that all children and some adults would suffer without physical contact (not just young ones as you mention) - your face is vital for maintaining relationships with them! Children look at your face for reassurance, a lot of language is learnt from your face, a baby only really recognises his mother’s face for several weeks. This is the reason I don’t wear a mask when outside, play park or anywhere that it’s not compulsory, so my baby can SEE ME. if the government made it compulsory to wear them at home they would lose any support they have left. But they wouldn’t be that stupid !

Noextremes2017 · 08/08/2020 19:21

I think you have been listening to too much Government propaganda OP.

Are you aware of the officially published Government statistic that across the whole of the UK (66,000,000 people approx) there were just 69 people in intensive care and requiring ventilation last week. Sixty fucking nine.
And you want to wear a face mask in your house?
Why don’t we stop everyone from walking at more than one mile per hour just in case walking faster brings on a heart attack!!??
There will be a lot more people die next week from heart attacks than Coronavirus!!!!!!!!!

Frazzled13 · 08/08/2020 19:22

If the law says you must wear masks at all times indoors, then people would do so I think.

You have to be joking. I absolutely disagree with you on this, I do not think people would wear masks at home.

yes, if masks prevent transmission then wouldn't you want to protect the people you care most about

So, people should also sleep in different beds to their partner, and never have sex, kiss, cuddle? Or are you advocating masked sleeping, plus no physical contact?

Noextremes2017 · 08/08/2020 19:23

69 Coronavirus patients requiring ventilators.

SmileTolerantly · 08/08/2020 19:27

At the risk of ruining the OP’s fun she is clearly not in favour of the policy she is proposing: she is anti the existing measures being taken and attempting to persuade us that they are equally nonsensical.

Drumple · 08/08/2020 19:30

My partner was shielding.

I didn’t see him from March til a week ago.

And now you’re telling me I shouldn’t see him again? Shouldn’t be able t hold him or kiss him.

elfycat · 08/08/2020 19:38

I Agree @SmileTolerantly but it's not a very good example of playing devil's advocate. Because it can be made practicable to wear a mask for a short time (or a whole day, as an ex-theatre nurse I did a single operation - no breaks - that ran to 8 hours plus).

But at night? While sitting down for dinner together? While in a confined space (house) where people will freely mix spaces? That's not doable.

So the argument isn't should we wear them at home vs wear them at all. The question is would wearing masks at home work and make a difference? The answer is not really* For all the reasons stated throughout this by everyone other than the OP.

*personal opinion subject to those peer reviewed studies should they turn up.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/08/2020 19:40

This thread is one of the most bonkers things I have ever read on here.

AgentCooper · 08/08/2020 19:49

Jeezo 🤦🏻‍♀️

SmileTolerantly · 08/08/2020 19:52

It’s an attempt at a reduction ad absurdum which might be appropriate when aimed at some of the more extreme overreactions of the earliest lockdown stage but which the OP seems to be aiming at the entire social distancing regime, even the bits which are well evidenced, low cost and proportionate.

SengaStrawberry · 08/08/2020 19:58

And how would this genius idea be enforced? Telescreens a la 1984?

islockdownoveryet · 08/08/2020 20:01

She's winding you up people , and you fell for it . Don't engage , seriously op get a hobby.

LindainLockdown · 08/08/2020 20:05

Ha ha, very funny thread.

Plsnomorepeppapig · 08/08/2020 20:07

I have laughter tears rolling down my face. 🤣😐

commentatorz · 08/08/2020 20:09

lol amazing how many people engaged in this thread seriously, good one OP 👍

ScarlettDarling · 08/08/2020 20:09

This sort of thread makes me feel ridiculously anxious. Do people really think like this or is this op a wind up? Could anyone really think it's acceptable to have to wear a mask 24 hours a day, even in bed? I wear my mask everywhere I have to but there is no way on earth that I'll wear one in my own bed!

Tanfastic · 08/08/2020 20:12

Fuck that 😦
