Me and dh just been out for dinner. Cheap and cheerful place, food not brilliant but half price so can't complain. Social distancing in place, took contact details at door, hand sanitiser at entrance and exit, paid contact less. Our table has plenty space around it.

Still felt too dodgy. Didn't enjoy it.
Won't be doing that again for a while.

I haven't found anything that says 50 per 100,000 results in 'containment'. Please do share a source for this as I'd be interested to see it.

This is the German threshold. It is set at 50 confirmed new infections per 100,000 of population. I am really not sure why people seem to think it applies to the UK.

I think, OP, you are quoting the estimate from Zoe app. They are estimating all active cases (which may last well over 7 days) and not just those that got confirmed by testing.

By Zoe standards, 41 infections per 100,000 is quite low.

wintertravel1980 · 06/08/2020 17:08

Sorry, a correction to the post above - the German threshold is set at 50 confirmed new infections per 100,000 of population over 7 days.

Depends how good your local restaurant is. I always think I can make better at home. DD had a salmon dish last night for £16.95. Was measly piece of fish and a small round of crushed potato with4 asparagus spears and sauce. £8 is all it should be.

Augustseemsbetter

I don’t think it is possible here to go from pub to pub.

Dc go out and have to pick one pub where everyone they meet with gets there early (5.30pm) otherwise they say the queue if you left and wanted to go into another one isn’t worth it. Chances are you wouldn’t get in. The SD queues are huge and once the tables have run out then that is it as no one leaves.
The pubs dc use have Perspex around the table. You text your drink order and get handed the tray through a gap in the Perspex by a masked server.

Some of the indoor restaurants have clear plastic screens around the tables as well as them being put at 2m+ away from the next one.

I haven’t used any pub or restaurant where even the most cautious person would have a problem with going in.

Good grief - get some common sense for God's sake!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/08/2020 17:38

I'm going out tomorrow night and I can't wait! I've been stupidly excited at the thought of a Chinese all week although I'm waiting for bloody Boris to announce all restaurants to close immediately to ruin my plans in the same way he ruined me getting my eyelashes tinted!

I'm happy to eat inside as I hate eating outside and avoid it wherever possible.

knittingaddict · 06/08/2020 17:44

Who needs common sense biggles? it's not clear who you're talking about.

YouSetTheTone · 06/08/2020 17:44

@wintertravel1980 thanks for the info re containment. I was surprised when a poster commented on my figures from the Zoe app saying it looked like my area was going into a local lockdown.
I agree with you that 41 per 100,000 is low for the app and it’s a figure that I’m very comfortable with in terms of going out and about. Smile

Cloudspotter · 06/08/2020 17:45

I think it's just a comfort zone thing. Totally understandable after what we've all been through, bit more to do with perceived than real risk.

I've had years of major anxiety, mental health issues and a bit if therapy over it. Now I'm almost trained to do a "real vs perceived risk" assessment.

I am more worried about the impact on the economy if we all stay in, so I'm forcing myself to get out there and take some risks.

TheBigFatMermaid · 06/08/2020 17:45

We went out last night for the first time in ages. We just don't eat out often.

It was in our local Brewers Fayre, so cheap and cheerful. Spotless. Had to book in advance, email address given.

The social distancing was perfect, one way system in place. We were told only DD (the eldest of the 2 teens) was allowed to go refill their refillable drinks, to minimise movement around. We had a table within perspex walls, as did everyone else.

It felt very safe, much safer than the supermarket, which feels like a free for all.

LovelyIssues · 06/08/2020 18:24

We still haven't eaten out and aren't planning to.

Susan1961 · 06/08/2020 18:26

I'm more concerned about the carcinogenic hand gel, cancer & heart disease are the biggest killers.

SueEllenMishke · 06/08/2020 18:28

There hasn't been a single case in my ward for at least a month and only a handful since March - we're trying to eat out and support local businesses as much as we can because we'd be really upset if they closed down.

All our experiences have been really positive so far.

Rosebel · 06/08/2020 18:40

We rarely eat out except for my birthday, my husbands birthday and our anniversary. Missed both our birthdays this year due to Covid. Wedding anniversary is in September but we now have a baby who'll be less than 3 months old then so no going out then either.
Feel a bit let down as our birthdays were our last chance to enjoy ourselves before having the baby (other children are teenagers) but I don't think I'll ever feel totally comfortable eating out again.

bananasplitsallround · 06/08/2020 18:44

We ate out earlier this week. I felt uncomfortable with it. I would have been more comfortable, and more likely to do it again, if the staff wore masks.

WendyE · 06/08/2020 18:50

Just come back from a UK holiday.
We ate out every evening, and each venue had all the social distancing, track and trace, hand sanitiser etc in place, with no problems. In fact I was very impressed with the amount of effort that these businesses had put in to make all this possible. We even managed to take advantage of the 50% discount of 'Eat out to help out' for a couple of evenings.
So, with all that in mind, I think we owe it to these businesses to make an effort to support them as much as possible over the coming weeks and months to protect peoples' jobs. Oh, and don't forget to enjoy yourself whilst you're at it!

cherish123 · 06/08/2020 18:56

I eat out quite regularly but haven't at all since lockdown eased. It all looks a bit joyless. I would like to be I think it all might be a lot of hassle.

FabulouslyFab · 06/08/2020 18:57

On Tuesday we had brunch, tea and cake in the afternoon and an evening meal out locally, thanks to Boris. The places we visited were marvellous.

Camassia · 06/08/2020 19:03

Each to their own I suppose. But the pubs and restaurants near me are trying so hard and spending a fortune on safety measures to keep everyone safe so I'm happy to repay them with my custom. I've been out several times and feel totally comfortable with it and will continue to do so.

It's great as you get shown to a table, your order taken and everything is brought to you. Couldn't be safer.

Stay away if you want - all the better for those of us who do go.

Fanciedachange1 · 06/08/2020 19:20

We went somewhere a few weekends ago and I didn’t feel comfortable. There was no social distancing, in fact it appeared as though they had put extra seating in.

We were a group of six and we were sat on a table of 8 (4 small tables with a bench one side and 4 chairs the other). We had 3 tables touching, and the remaining table was about a foot away with another couple sat at it!

The service was slow so lots of waiting around, and when people did leave the tables were cleaned but the chairs weren’t touched.

No details were taken and i only saw 3 waiting staff wearing facemasks.

It has definitely made me think twice about going out again any time soon.

Forgone90 · 06/08/2020 19:23

Well op if everyone had your attitude, there won't obe any restraunts to eat out at in the future!

Forgone90 · 06/08/2020 19:26

Also the scheme is eat out to help out... The main purpose being to help out these companies.. Yes it's not going to be the same service we are used to but I will do all. I can to support the local economy. Imagine if people just decided to stop using whatever service your job provides op... It would be a different story then

kateandme · 06/08/2020 19:35

its air born enough said.

SengaStrawberry · 06/08/2020 19:40

@kateandme

its air born enough said.
Well do you go anywhere at all then because the shop would be as much risk as anywhere else if it’s hanging around in the air.
Sudoku88 · 06/08/2020 19:46

I think you’re being super paranoid. I’m an ITU nurse so really in the thick of it during covid and witnessed first hand what it can do to you. Yet I have no issues about going out to shops/ restaurants. Just be sensible, practice social distancing and wash your hands.
