Me and dh just been out for dinner. Cheap and cheerful place, food not brilliant but half price so can't complain. Social distancing in place, took contact details at door, hand sanitiser at entrance and exit, paid contact less. Our table has plenty space around it.

Still felt too dodgy. Didn't enjoy it.
Won't be doing that again for a while.

I guess it's optional if staff wear them but I think it's a good idea, sort if makes the customer feel a bit safer. Well it would me anyway.

Wow! That's so selfish, you'd be happy with the staff wearing masks for hours on end just so you can enjoy your meal out. I'd be staying at home if I were you.

Get a grip. I work in retail and will be wearing a mask for a 9 hour shift.

So many restaurants are going into Administration and stopping trading. If we don’t support them now, they might not be there to enjoy in the future.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/08/2020 20:50

We went for a Chinese last night and enjoyed it so much we're going back next week. Our temperatures were taken and we were giving hand sanitiser when we arrived, the staff were wearing masks and the tables were well spaced out.

I spoke to 2 friends today who feel the same as me, they've been out for dinner and don't want to rush back. Things that would make a difference are front if house staff wearing masks, cutlery being wrapped before giving it to you and social distancing between tables.

All those things have happened at the restaurants I’ve been to.
ssd · 08/08/2020 22:11

We all want to support local restaurants. We've all had various takeaways. We know places are in danger of closing. But restaurants need to take things seriously and simply do the things that make customers feel safe and want to come back, exactly what @PinkSparklyPussyCat describes.

We’re trying to book a table for 4 for Monday evening, having trouble finding anywhere, they are all totally booked. The restaurants we went to last week said they are pretty much fully booked for August, not just Mon - Wed! I think it’s fabulous (even if we can’t get in anywhere ourselves)

Such a shame your choice of restaurant isn’t doing that. I’ve eaten out approx 10 times in the past few weeks and all have taken it seriously.

Eaten out a few times.

This is a given in all the places we have been.
Even screens between the tables inside.

LouisBalfour · 09/08/2020 22:42

We have been eating out several times a week since everything re-opened.

Never been served by people in masks (I am pleased to say), although other measures are in place.

Then you're going to the wrong places. We may have opened on 4th July, but we were in for a week before that, making sure all those measures (apart from the masks) were in place.

We spend three times as long closing at night to make sure that all cutlery is sterile and wrapped.

No we dont wear masks, but then neither do you.

Augustseemsbetter · 10/08/2020 08:55

In a place this weekend for lunch. Staff wore masks, profferred drinks from the tray (presumably reducing people handling the glasses) The windows and doors were left open so it was airy if not windyGrin! Tables did seem further apart than last time we ate there. They really were trying hard.

DappledThings · 10/08/2020 10:14

Most of that would make me less likely to return. Anywhere behaving more normally and not making it all weird and clinical would be preferable.

You are clearly the one who needs to get a grip. Just dont go out for fuck sake, no one is forcing you.

I had a lovely meal out in a pub garden a couple of weeks ago, going out tonight in the garden, for my mums 79th Birthday, going out with friends tomorrow night. I’m making the most of the government scheme, we will all have to pay it back at some point, so i’m making sure i’m getting my monies worth.

Bedraggledmumoftwo · 10/08/2020 22:38

So I tried to go to a hungry horse tonight. Booked in advance. Had the app, had already selected the food and was ready to place order as soon as seated for table number.... it was absolutely packed, less tables inside, but very large beer garden was rammed. and then they said, there is a bit of a wait..... an hour and a half for food and half an hour for drinks.....

I think they should have stopped taking bookings when they reached their new (reduced) capacity, not just filled the beer garden to bursting without having enough staff to serve them. Seemed a bit ridiculous and has put me off the whole thing. ( didn't stay as waiting an hour and a half for kids dinner is just not possible!)

From Sky News - Eat Out to Help Out sees 10.5 million discounts claimed in first week

The Treasury has hailed the scheme, aimed at supporting the hospitality industry, a success so far as it enters its second week.

userxx · 11/08/2020 11:37

@Parker231 Great news.

I used the app in a Greene Kings pub and it was brilliant, really hope they continue with it, so easy and much quicker than usual.

Titsywoo · 11/08/2020 14:27

Glad the scheme is working so well. Ive been out to eat a lot in the last 8 days and am out again tonight. Last night we went to Miller and Carter and our £130ish bill ended up at £70 (we are shareholders so get 20% off vouchers too). Everywhere I have been has felt very safe and well organised. I'm happy to support the hospitality industry as much as possible!

mum2jakie · 11/08/2020 15:01

Had a lovely day out today and enjoyed some lovely half price food and drink with the kids. Bought far more than I would usually because it's my own future 😜 taxes!

middleager · 11/08/2020 15:58

Took the kids to the Toby Carvery. Social distancing hard in a carvery queue! I didn't eat.

Poor staff were run off their feet. There were only a couple working. I'm not sure the portions I witnessed or the mountains of desserts will get the nation healthy.

CitizenCandyKane · 11/08/2020 21:15

Face masks ARE compulsory in restaurants in Scotland. And if you wear a visor you now have to wear a mask too.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/08/2020 07:54

Went out in Nottingham last night. It was packed. Never seen it so busy on a Wednesday. The warm weather must have brought everyone out. You would barely know, apart from a few masks on show and hand sanitiser offered at the entrance to restaurants, that there was a pandemic on. We found it difficult to get a table anywhere. The place we ended up in (sports bar) was offering 'eat out to help out', but charged us full price. When we queried it, they said it was because we hadn't ordered a soft drink with the food. Is that a government rule? Nowhere in the bar had it stipulated that.

No they aren’t.
