Is this true? You can't take away! Is the government trying to spread covid twice as fast this month? 🤦🏻‍♀️
@Staplemaple looks like it, see the post under yours.

@labyrinthloafer hasn't the VE day celebrations, the packed beaches, the riots protests, the street parties, the raves taught you nothing? Cases alone means nothing if they come to nothing - hospital admissions and fatalities WITH the virus are continuing to fall to 20 !!! Come on!!
Outdoors vs. indoors.

Deaths lower is due to age group of new cases primarily.

If you think something magic has happened to the virus, please explain what it is.

It's always been about money, not safety.

Coffeeandbeans · 04/08/2020 17:47

If 3 couples go to the pub and sit outside they don’t need to sit 1 meter apart. People will use their common sense just like we have from the start. I certainly wouldn’t choose to have lunch with couple A who both work on the Covid ward. However I would have lunch with couple B who like us haven’t been anywhere, have been working from home, have home deliveries and as far as I’m concerned are perfectly safe.

If some stranger in a pub is shown to have Covid I will not be self isolating unless I have symptoms. Otherwise medical staff and shop workers will be constantly self isolating everytime a customer or patient is tested positive.

We had a lovely meal out last night, would never normally go out on a Monday so it is certainly helping sit in restaurants/cafes....if you don't feel comfortable just don't do it! Also remember if you do leave a tip for good service remember to tip to the total price, not just what you're paying..

sashagabadon · 04/08/2020 17:57

Had a lovely lunch today in wagamama. Really enjoyable experience and will eat out tomorrow night with the family at our local pub too and do the same next week and week after and planning a fortnum and mason afternoon tea before August ends too

@Babyroobs

Why have fast food chains like mc Donalds been allowed to sign up for this ? They have been open for most of lock down. My Ds works for them and said last nights shift was absolutely unbearable with people making huge orders and his manager getting him to man the door with over 40 odd people outside baying to get it !! Unbelievable.
My daughter tried to go to nandos today. Queue was 3 hours! Secret is to try non chains i think and try and support local restuarants. I won't be darkening McDonald's doors anytime soon

Some are franchises. They’ll need the money and many were not open. My local one is a franchise. It was only open towards the end of lockdown and they’re huge down on customers. They need the custom to keep going. It’s actually a big McDonald’s and quite a few people would be out of work if it’s unsustainable.

TheGreatWave · 04/08/2020 18:16

I'm in Pizza Hut. It is absolutely fine, I feel no less safe in here then I do anywhere else.

lynsey91 · 04/08/2020 18:19

I really did not think I would feel comfortable eating inside a restaurant but me and DH went for breakfast yesterday and it was fine. The only person who came anywhere near us was the waitress and she had a face visor on.

We have now booked to go to an indian restaurant we like tomorrow night and will probably go out for breakfast again tomorrow morning.

As long as restaurants have tables far enough apart then I feel happy. Neither me or DH ever use the toilets in a restaurant so no worries about having to walk past tables to get to them or touching door handles etc

Our local one has only been open for drive through for 3 weeks and sit ins for a week. They are not all one big homogeneous organism.

TheGreatWave · 04/08/2020 18:26

We are at Pizza Hut as that is pretty much the only place autistic DS will marginally tolerate.

mum2jakie · 04/08/2020 18:27

The chain restaurants are massive employers so should absolutely be part of this promotion. Hopefully this will be the boost needed to prevent closures nationwide. It's even being utilised by our local wildlife park, so making a family day out cheaper.

Catsup · 04/08/2020 18:28

We're booked up to eat out tonight. I'm very much looking forward to it! I've worked outside of home since the outbreak started and I'm really fed up of takeaways and not going anywhere. We also went to an outdoor family amusement area last week. I don't feel any less safe/more exposed to be honest. I feel like whiIst I was originally really worried, it's not turned out anything like it was projected to be. And I'm so used to life carrying on as normal inside work that I'm happy it's resuming normality outside it too.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 04/08/2020 18:38

@Parky04

Went to the pub last night and had a fabulous time with good friends. As there were 6 of us we had to sit outside, which was no problem. Will be going to many more places during August.
Was the pub happy to give you a large enough table to allow you to to socially distance from each other? I would really like to go for food or drinks outside a pub or restaurant with a friend or two, but I don't know if the pub/restaurant would be OK giving us a larger table, and having empty seats.
lotusbell · 04/08/2020 18:41

It was announced weeks ago yet I've seen several today in SM query why you can't use it for take out or drive thru.
Also, a lot of people are spectacularly missing the point about who this is aimed at and who it benefits. Seen so.many people moaning about it.

I didn't realise this. Our local ones have been open for pretty much the whole of lock down and always really busy.
HeadAndShoulders · 04/08/2020 19:29

I know people who have been ultra cautious washing hands, wearing masks, washing shopping etc, but as soon as £10 off Nandos arrived they were in the queue before I could say "you're flipping nuts".

MoreW1ne · 04/08/2020 19:32

We had a meal for 9 the other night. Had to chat to manger as furniture had to be moved to accommodate which staff weren't allowed to do. Manager was really nice/accommodating and had a great meal at a quality price. Will be going back. Always worth asking.

MoreW1ne · 04/08/2020 19:34

@RichardMarxisinnocent sorry meant to tag you in that. So yea worth asking restaurants what they can do for you.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/08/2020 19:39

DH were out last night at our local pub, and tomorrow night a bit further afield. We have been supporting the locals throughout lockdown with takeaways, and looking forward to using this offer in August. Think they need all the help they can get through the rest of the summer in case there’s another lockdown.

AllPlayedOut · 04/08/2020 19:46

Every McDonalds in the U.k and Ireland closed on 23rd March and the earliest any of them opened was on May13 so even your local branch would have lost a fortune.

Stellakent · 04/08/2020 19:47

We have to be realistic. Unless the economy improves essential services will be cut and that will mean the health service will be even more under pressure. I normally pay quite a high amount in taxes - the work in my sector has disappeared and I will pay nothing for this year. Multiply that by thousands.....

I live in London. In the borough I live in the deaths from covid have been in single figures for more than a month. Hardly any new cases.

This is a great opportunity to kickstart the economy and save jobs for those in this sector. I'm currently having a drink sitting in a pub garden. The pub restaurant is full (and well managed). That's a good thing.

Didyousaynutella · 04/08/2020 19:50

My NHS staff canteen Is half price under the initiative but only if you sit in, only there aren’t ever any tables free. It’s daft. I managed to find the last table to perch in but wander if I will get accosted next time if I walk back to my staff room when there aren’t any tables free!

HermioneWeasley · 04/08/2020 20:02

Just back from a local restaurant which was buzzing - lots of people laughing and eating with friends. it was great to see, and the restaurant said they’re booked up and delighted

MoreW1ne · 04/08/2020 20:06

I called 5 very good local restaurants end of last week to try and book for Thursday. Not even part of the eat out days yet they're all booked up all evening. I'm glad they're getting some business after this difficult time for them.
