Is this true? You can't take away! Is the government trying to spread covid twice as fast this month? 🤦🏻‍♀️

You can use the offer to sit at an outside table at a restaurant or pub and that is what we will be doing. Places like coffee shops are also on the scheme. I had a half price latte at an outdoor table on a shopping trip.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/08/2020 15:38

My dh is self employed and is not in a position to self isolate if he was contacted through track and trace.
I am surprised this isn't more of an issue for more people?

AuldFox · 04/08/2020 15:40

labyrinth we will be enjoying ourselves at a lovely restaurant tomorrow, no matter what you say. I’m happy that my business is booming and we are going out to celebrate.

labyrinthloafer · 04/08/2020 15:46

@AuldFox I wouldn't expect someone to change their plans due to what I say! My hope is sometime soon the country changes its approach.

AuldFox · 04/08/2020 15:48

Yeah, I don’t think that will happen yet. If we have a second wave, I’m sure the policy will be looked at again. For example, pubs and restaurants may need to close, in order to allow schools to open. I’m ok with that, just getting in a few lovely meals while we still can.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/08/2020 15:54

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit at the places I went to eat no one asked for our details! We didn't book a table, they were accepting walk ins and never asked for our details when we left.

middleager · 04/08/2020 15:57

We had a Costa today outside.

I hate the headline that the meals are "on the Chancellor" as he is not funding this!

MoreW1ne · 04/08/2020 16:00

wax it is technically not compulsory to collect details. Neither is it compulsory to pass onto track and trace. The government have said its voluntary but are obviously asking all to do so and so most are.

You can also technically refuse for your details to be passed onto track and trace, but again obviously a lot of places are making this their own conditions for entering.

Sunshiney1981 · 04/08/2020 16:03

On the other hand OP, it’s important that people do and eat out in my opinion.

The hospitality industry is on its knees.
Another 1100 jobs gone today and 60+ restaurants closing at Pizza Express.

I personally think the new ‘eat out’ scheme is a good thing for us all. Our economy is in the biggest trouble in decades. It’s going to have a huge detrimental effect on so many people.

We’ve eaten out recently and like others have said it’s actually quite a pleasant experience! Lots of measures in place to maintain distancing and hygiene measures have never been so good. Enjoyed being in a ‘private’ booth with DH 💓

TheGreatWave · 04/08/2020 16:16

Not long till I go to Pizza Hut. 🍕 yummy.

Willow2017 · 04/08/2020 16:16

Same for @Willow2017 . Social distancing still applies outside. 2 metres or 1 metre with mitigations. Fed up of lazy thinking.
Not if people are from the same family. We can have 4 people at a table in my place so 2 tables would easily cover 6 people if there were families involved even 3 tables a meter apart for 3 couples would allow you to talk to each other. Tables are often dotted around outside not in straight rows. Its really not difficult to imagine how it can work.

All of which is of course excellent for halting transmission Angry
zoemum2006 · 04/08/2020 16:27

I had some Pizza Hut with my kids today at 50% off and we sat outside in the sun (still part of the restaurant). It was lovely and great value.

Here you go: and a tip: stop watching the catastrophising news.

I thinknthe concept is save the buisness by purchasing food, pick up a covid to go and help the government to the herd immunity target.

I will be avoiding this scheme

VenusTiger · 04/08/2020 16:35

We need to get on with things.

VenusTiger · 04/08/2020 16:37

@Trackandtrace what?? so all the keyworkers I know, including my brother who has been in to work every single day since start of pandemic and has not had any symptoms - key workers' children who haven't passed it on to "thousands of teachers" as was suggested. Look at the facts (graphs above for starters) and look at the recovery rate, look at the ages of those who have died WITH not from the virus, look at the PHE investigation that is still ongoing and start living again.

Staplemaple · 04/08/2020 16:41

I think you've made the mistake of bringing facts and logic onto this messageboard @VenusTiger

Things like the second spike you mean?
GrumpiestOldWoman · 04/08/2020 16:56

Opening up restaurants with covid-secure precautions in order to keep money flowing around a hard-hit area of the economy is reasonable and any I have seen have been changed to make them socially distanced from other tables, staff have worn masks, and it felt safe.

That said I'm struggling to see how 3 couples gathered together around a single table for 2 hours is a great idea. We're relying on common sense there, but unfortunately most people assess the risk from strangers as significantly greater than the risk from their family/friends so voluntary social distancing is/was always going to be a challenge.

VenusTiger · 04/08/2020 16:57

@Staplemaple looks like it, see the post under yours.

@labyrinthloafer hasn't the VE day celebrations, the packed beaches, the riots protests, the street parties, the raves taught you nothing? Cases alone means nothing if they come to nothing - hospital admissions and fatalities WITH the virus are continuing to fall to 20 !!! Come on!!

Pitterpatterpotter · 04/08/2020 16:59

We have different local independent restaurants booked every week in August for our family of 5. It’s nice to be able afford to treat ourselves at half the normal cost and also support local businesses

stairway · 04/08/2020 17:02

We are on a uk break and it’s great, we’ve eaten at Costa and M and S today and hardly spent a penny. Tomorrow we are getting a hotel breakfast for 5 for only £8.95! Yum

Babyroobs · 04/08/2020 17:14

Why have fast food chains like mc Donalds been allowed to sign up for this ? They have been open for most of lock down. My Ds works for them and said last nights shift was absolutely unbearable with people making huge orders and his manager getting him to man the door with over 40 odd people outside baying to get it !! Unbelievable.
