Schools to remain closed until October half term?

Lots and lots coming out in the news how schools will finally be re-opening - anyone else think it might get pushed back at the last minute to after the October half term?

Nope.

Fedup21 · 04/08/2020 11:59

No, I think they’ll open as planned but if the government’s return to school plans don’t change and continue with only a couple of half-hearted attempts at risk mitigation, they won’t stay open for very long.

This won’t be the fault of schools, teachers, heads, of unions, it will be the fault of the government.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/08/2020 11:59

No they will open.

Kaftankween · 04/08/2020 11:59

I think pubs might close, restaurants, salons anything to ensure schools go back in September.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 04/08/2020 12:00

No

Kaykay066 · 04/08/2020 12:01

Why? Where did you hear this or is it made up?
We go back next week

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 04/08/2020 12:01

Itll be worse by October Confused

Splattherat · 04/08/2020 12:03

I hope not. DD about to go into year 11 I don’t think she could cope with much more time away from school.

stopcollaborateandlisten · 04/08/2020 12:05

No, it isn't in the news - just thoughts. It seems that every time there's a push for schools to return that suddenly there's some backtracking or it being "the aim" to return and not explicitly confirmed that everything is going ahead. It just seemed like they were priming for another U turn on this...

Redwinestillfine · 04/08/2020 12:05

No. We'll be back in full lockdown by October.

wagtailred · 04/08/2020 12:06

No they will open.
I am suspicious Christmas might become a 8 week break though

DomDoesWotHeWants · 04/08/2020 12:08

R rates are going up so it's a possibility. If I was a teachers I'd refuse to go back without masks and distancing.

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 04/08/2020 12:10

More likely they go back for 4/5 weeks and are then off for 6 months

Timefor45 · 04/08/2020 12:10

Nope. Here in Scotland we’re due back next week- albeit year groups staggered over days until the 18th- and fully intend to confidently send children back full time.

BertieBob · 04/08/2020 12:10

They will open, regardless of the figures.

Timefor45 · 04/08/2020 12:13

Fully expect cases to rise as we creep into Autumn, but stop this narrative of schools returning will send us all into further lockdown. Cases, not deaths. There’s a massive difference.

monkeytennis97 · 04/08/2020 12:15

@BertieBob sadly I agree with you (secondary school teacher). I think this is the one thing they will stick to regardless. Very worried for myself and DH (also secondary teacher).

PurpleCalm · 04/08/2020 12:18

I feel they'll be open for 4-6 weeks and then closed again until the Spring.

KetoPenguin · 04/08/2020 12:19

I think Scottish schools reopening will be watched carefully and may lead to some changes, but the government sounds adamant schools will reopen.

ThatDamnScientist · 04/08/2020 12:20

No, everything else will be closed before schools shut again (although nothing will close again, but if it really came to it other things will be sacrificed first - and rightfully so!).

ThatDamnScientist · 04/08/2020 12:22

@wagtailred

No they will open. I am suspicious Christmas might become a 8 week break though
I do think Christmas break may be extended and maybe some blended learning over the winter months.
PopsicleHustler · 04/08/2020 12:22

Who knows. I think it would be wise to have a lockdown now, so schools can re open safely in september or even October at the latest. I am so excited for my children to return to school, but they are all vulnerable with health issues and suppressed immune systems, I worry about them. My husband said to send them back in January and also considering this too as then at least it's been a year since covid19 but then that means more homeschooling from Sept to january from myself which I dont mind because I've always done that even before this situation but I'd like a break too.

I think they need to shut down unnecessary things again like pubs and so on. I think a second rise this autumn is due to happen and I really dont want that. I want us out of this horrible nightmare. I'm due in mid january so would really love for my husband to attend the entire birth and afterwards rather than I go in first and all that palace and then he comes in when I am in established labour and so on and then to leave immediately after I have had the baby. Really hoping come Jaunary, numbers have really died down and we are on the up.
Unfortunately watching the news and observations on posts on Instagram etc have shown me just how clueless and careless people are. Clubbing every weekend and coming home to their children after a night In a party packed like sardines in a phone box. Everyone going to the pub and dancing and hugging. It's just absurd. I know people want to get back to Normal but we really have to be so careful and cautious in our everyday lives.

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/08/2020 12:23

I also see schools opening and pockets closing.
More likely local lockdowns with teachers either locked in a separate bubble and can’t go to work, or the schools are closed. Creating more shortages of staff.

I think online learning will happen for senior schools, with infants and juniors expanded to allow more bubbles - they may even use senior schools for this.

ceeveebee · 04/08/2020 12:24

I think they’ll open and then close by October half term...

Scottishgirl85 · 04/08/2020 12:24

Schools will open no matter what. Children cannot be let down again and working parents need to work. It may be that the pub and restaurant industry have to close to balance it out and hopefully they will receive specific government support.
Schools may close in localised lockdowns of course...
