2020 just a blur.

This year has dragged, yet at the same time, I can't believe that is is August. I was looking for an email in my sent items and started reading emails I'd sent back in December. It feels like a completely different world - so much I took for granted.

Dh has a theory that it's because we 'missed' Easter. Therefore we are still sort of mentally stuck in March

He might be on to something. I look back and can't believe it was more than 4 months ago we were locked down. All the days blur into one - apart from 'events' like the washing machine breaking down...

Apparently each day seems to drag on for ages as there is nothing new to do but when you look back on the year, as there were no distinguishing features, it is all just a blur in your mind. Does that make sense?

It's been awful and I can't see it getting any better. Our flat went on the market just before lockdown. We're in a 500sq fit 2 bedroom with no garden. It now won't sell because naturally everyone wants a garden.

We are stuck here with no options and it makes me want to curl up in a ball and never get up again.

Yes I agree, I think it's because there are no events as markers that the year is passing. Festivals, gigs, weddings, parties, birthday celebrations, weekends away. When you look back there's just nothing. Sadly when you look forward there's pretty much nothing too, my calendar is completely clear - how depressing!

Yes I suddenly realised that my calendar has nothing written on it at all since the beginning of March apart from people's birthdays which I transfer from year to year in January.

We have met up with friends twice in our gardens in the past few weeks but I didn't even bother to write that on the calendar because we weren't going to be forgetting about it.

I struggle a bit watching TV programmes and reading books where people are doing normal things like shopping or going out for a meal or drink. I keep thinking how can they be doing this and then realising that it's now that is abnormal not the programmes/books.

And now I'm crying.

I'm the same - I expect a lot of people feel like this. I went into my city centre yesterday determined to feel 'normal' but it was so dystopian with the masks, one way systems, written instructions, security policing our shopping centre entrances etc; I came home feeling drained and anxious.

Oh this is so accurate. I absolutely feel like it's an endless March - like Groundhog Day. Every day is the 23rd of March forever. Grin Hmm

I agree that since March has been one long month. No long Easter weekend, fa cup final and Eurovision in May, Wimbledon, Ascot, events that you might not realise you need to mark seasons and months.
It's very disconcerting.

August is the time for chain stores to have Back to Skool windows. September is Halloween costumes, October is Christmas windows and spot the Christmas ads on telly.
August is also the new Argos catalogue, but I think it's all online now. And we get the evening classes prospectus but I think a lot of that is online.
I'm so fed up with online.

I agree in general that all is pretty grim - but I have been shopping, for a coffee inside, for a restaurant meal inside, for a amusement park day out and for a camping trip to the coast so far - all these things are possible!

It's rubbish. I to am struggling to read, watch TV or focus. My head is in a fog and I'm so tired and drained all the time.

We have been for a meal out, we went away for a few days and have had a couple of birthdays but it's been very hard work. Life is a dull and mundane. The things I used to enjoy have changed and are now stressful and unfamiliar. I'm dreading winter 🙈. I wondered yesterday how are we going to do Halloween, Christmas etc.

I've got uniform for the DC but I can't see how schools will remain open over winter. Colds, flu and Covid with kids! We'll be isolating and testing every week.

But yes 2020 has been dyer and I want to wake up when it's all over. I've had enough.

Yes! I was reading a crime novel where the detectives were visiting suspects, going to people's houses, meeting people in pubs, visiting offices, etc., and just driving to other places - I was so envious of how casual it was! I am also extremely jealous when I read books involving people going into work, popping into a cafe for lunch, chatting to people at the train station...

Yes it is true that those things are possible but it's not the same. It's not only the activities themselves but the way they happen. Strangers aren't able to stand next to each other or people dance close together etc. Well if they follow the rules they can't

It's certainly better than nothing that some activities have resumed but the changes really bring it home to you.

Starting to feel like March again a little bit. Including the weather

I've kept a diary and it feels odd looking back. I can't decide if these feel like ages ago or last week

Last weeks in January- World news showing footage of lockdowns in Wuhan
Middle of February- Storm Ciara and Dennis, floods (remember that? Shock )
Last day of February- UK confirmed cases 29

March 4th - UK confirmed cases 85 (as we know now it was massively higher than this)
March second week - Italy lockdown, Cheltenham Festival goes ahead Hmm , shortages in shops begin
March 16th avoid non essential travel 19th - pubs, gyms, restaurants, clubs to close
March 23rd full lockdown, 26th first clap for NHS, 29th clocks go back

April 12th Easter Sunday
