Sore throat?

So my ds (7) was awake in the night with a sore throat. No other symptoms. Now fine.

As far as I understand it sore throat can be a symptom of covid but unlikely (if not impossible) if not accompanied by cough/fever etc. That said lots of people don't have symptoms at all do they. Can't find a definitive answer as to whether or not a sore throat is enough to ask for a test by itself.

I am in one of the areas with increased restrictions and although we as a family have been careful he has been mixing with other children in playgrounds etc (haven't they all?) with strict handwashing etc, there's a small outbreak locally. Would you get him tested or am I massively overreacting. Also there is a drive in testing site relatively close by which last I heard has plenty of appointments and a quick turnaround.

Given the current situation in the UK, I don't think anyone who gets tested due to having symptoms is "massively overreacting".

Definitely get tested. Especially in an area with extra intervention

Get tested. When you book online they ask if the person has any symptoms (under Reason for requesting a test) - but don't ask what they are - and then if they have any of the main symptoms now - but you can answer No and still continue with booking the test.

You'll only know for sure by booking a test. If you don't you'll just be left guessing.

Particularly as your local area has cases I really think you need him to be tested asap. It's very quick and easy to book online.

Thanks all DH thinks it’s “extremely unlikely” to be covid, which is probably true, but would be daft not to rule it out if tests widely available. It doesn’t look like I would be taking up a test of anyone who otherwise needs it more than I do does it.

I'm in the same predicament. We all got tested 2 weeks ago as my youngest had a cough and couldn't go back to nursery without one. Now I've got a sore throat and wondering if should do again? But I don't want to be a serial tester if it's really not necessary.

I wish there was more specific guidance in these circumstances.

Definitely get tested again. There’s plenty of tests available you aren’t taking one from someone else. Sore throat is a common symptom!

We all had dentist appointments last week (Nhs routine) they have increased the symptoms to the normal 3 plus sore throat, fatigue and headache. Not sure if that unique to our dentist. Also DS football team under 14s also state the above along with the 3 known symptoms for a reason for players not to play.

Well that's a bit crap. I've just tried to order another one and it won't let me as I've recently placed an order.

Those results came through over a week ago though- Friday, so it's been nearly 2 weeks since my last order, previous Tuesday.

I haven't got transport to get to a testing centre.

I didn't know there was a length of time you had to wait before you could test again.

And I've just phoned 119 and they've confirmed as a sore throat isn't one of the key symptoms, they won't send a test.

Fingers crossed it isn't COVID then!

My throat is always sore. I've had 8 negative tests so far (work in a care home so I have to have regular covid testing). I would still get tested for peace of mind.
