Does my partner need to test?

This might sound like a stupid question, but we are a bit confused by a new, continuous cough.

He coughs once, as if to clear his throat, about once every 2 hours. So not a bit coughing fit, but a single cough.

I think this still counts as a cough, he isn't sure.

Does this count as a new (which it is), continuous (which we aren't sure about) cough?

Coughing once is not continuous.

Does he have any other symptoms ?

High temperature?
Loss or change in smell/taste?

Any reason to suspect cv19?

No other symptoms. No reason to suspect covid-19 apart from that he started back at work this week and has been staying in a hotel and had catering etc so potentially a bit more possibility for coming into contact with someone but seems unlikely.

If you Google continuous cough it is defined, I had to look it up back in march!

Given he's just gone back to work, if he isn't sure, he could test to be on the safe side. As some people have NO symptoms then it is entirely possible he has just this symptom.

My philosophy on this is, as soon as you wonder whether you should be getting a test..... get a test!

They're easily available and you can usually get one quite locally so where's the harm?

I had a cough as you describe earlier in the week. I have just returned from abroad so I took a test. It was negative. I would get a test as they are so easy to access and it just gives the peace of mind.
