Will schools go back in the lockdown areas?

Just thinking about the new restricted areas in West Yorks, Greater Manc and Lancs. if restrictions are still in place come September (although they are meant to be reviewing it weekly) will schools still return as planned?

If this outbreak isn't contained we're in for massive case volume by September, follow the graph. They'd have to close pubs and reduce attendance for schools to go back in those areas.

I'm hoping that they manage to bring these areas under control before then as DS's school is in one of the areas and my parents live in another.

The new restricted areas aren't on lockdown though like Leicester was, nothing has closed in those areas like they did in Leicester. They just have restrictions on mixing with other people/households however if these light restrictions aren't followed then it's very possible lockdowns will be implemented.

I hope so ,I'm in Greater Manchester,they desperately need to be back in school ,but I am anxious,I have a disabled child who goes to a SEN school,who also goes on school transport .

Yes, schools will return. It's the 'mingling' within households that needs to be contained. The idea is that there are systems in place outside the home that are easier to control.

In lockdown areas no I cant see schools being part of that

The areas you mentioned arent on lockdown though just have more restrictions

The thing is @bizmum1 my son's SEN have devised bubbles ,staggered start times different entrances but than the children all mix on transport, the mini buses pick up children that are geographically close to each and this being a special school it covers a massive area ,whilst I appreciate most children are in mainstream ,it is concerning , particularly as our numbers are quite high at the moment

The transport issue is exactly the same for mainstream, though - in fact worse as you are talking double decker buses seating 88 not minibuses. Transport (buses and trains) will pop all the "bubbles" straight away.

No schools won’t be going back in lockdown areas.

That's a point Dangling ,my oldest walks to school ,but it's going to be an issue affecting kids that have to get public transport.

Sorry, yes, public or school only transport. It's still mixing with either the general public, kids from other schools (going in the same direction) or other year groups from one school.

Transport is a huge issue.

But as soon as there are siblings in different bubbles the bubbles are mixed anyway?

I'm I. Leicester City, we're still in lockdown just easing some of the restrictions.

We will on Monday reopen to the point that the rest of the country was at on 4th July, but like Manchester... we can't have any indoor or garden meet ups.

Next review is 15th August, schools are due back 26th August. Really not sure what will happen about schools if they choose to extend us again. I can't see how schools can open if they deem it unsafe to do someone's nails, interact with extended family members....

If people aren’t allowed to mix within households when schools go back in these areas, how do they propose some parents will manage with childcare? As most of the parents I know with school age children rely on grandparents or other family members to pick them up from school and take them home.

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 how come schools go back so much earlier in your area? Isn’t it September in England?

@CathyandHeathcliff school holidays start 13th July, we've always been a week earlier, something to do with factory holidays years ago. It means we've been in lockdown for the whole summer holidays pretty much. As of next week we can leave the city boundary though and go to some attractions at least.

Even if your child walks to school they will then mix with those coming on public transport in school.
So no bubbles other than whole school ones in reality.

Other schools too, although my son walks to school ,there are a couple of other secondary schools in close proximity ,so in my town at least kids from different schools will be all travelling on buses together .

The reasonable endeavours on EHCPs hasn't been renewed so unless they change the law again those children will have to have a full time place available.

Well they have,nt since march every child at Ds2,s school has an EHCP yet school has been closed .
