Anyone think masks will need to be worn in school?

As we are going to need to wear masks in more places from 8th August I was thinking about schools.
Does anyone else think they will be compulsory at secondary schools if they go back in September ?
I worry for my DS as he has ASD and other special needs, mask will make it difficult for him to both understand and be understood.

I read yesterday that currently there are over 300 children in hospital in Florida, 5 have died, 4 of whom had no pre-existing conditions. How on earth anyone can argue children can't spread the disease or catch it or be seriously affected is beyond me. Yes they are less likely to have serious complications, but putting 30 children in a small room in winter is a perfect environment for it to spread quickly.

Exactly. Then they all go home to parents, grandparents etc, to other out of school activities, cafes etc.

If I can't wear a mask or social distance at work, will I be expected to isolate myself in my own time to protect the general public, I wonder?

OpheliasCrayon · 01/08/2020 13:57

I do supply work and if they made me wear a mask all day at work I'd just not bother working until that rule was gone, or find a different job that I could do working from home.
It sounds awful. I take three Immunosuppressants but I would only work if mask wearing wasn't compulsory

@ fantasia - I wish it was true that children dont transmit the virus but sadly I dont beleive that to be the case as does the researcher in the link below

@Fantasisa - how does this make sense if you claim children don’t spread the disease?

Thank you @Pasghetti I was about to call out that outright lie too

I’m waiting for this to be on the next piece of guidance. If school staff are seen anywhere that isn’t deemed ‘essential’, they’ll be fined!

That's dated 30 April but I've seen "kids don't transmit" so many times and it's over 3 months later

DipSwimSwoosh · 01/08/2020 16:22

I don't see how I can teach languages wearing a mask.

Cabinet meetings are no mask and socially distanced but teachers in secondary and pupils are crammed in like sardines 🤔

MrsFogi · 02/08/2020 00:31

I simply do not care as long as the secondary schools reopen full time from September and stay open. If necessary they can wear full hazmat suits, they just need to go back both for their education and for their mental health.
