Can Covid start with cold symptoms?

Came back from (UK, socially distanced) holiday yesterday and now have a stinking cold - nose running, sneezing, thick head. Never had a bad cold in the height of summer before Confused

Does this sound like it could be Covid? Have literally none of the typical symptoms AFAIK, but maybe it starts like this sometimes?

I think there is a heavy cold going round at the moment - we've all had it - non stop sneezing, sore throat , cough but no temp, loss of taste.

My DC caught it from playing with our neighbours - their dad has to have very regular tests for his job and no positive tests which has given me piece of mind

Yes those are our symptoms cannot. I was hoping to find out if a cold is currently doing the rounds.

RaspberryRuff · 20/08/2020 20:58

I was reading something yesterday that said cold symptoms eg bunged up nose, sneezing are not associated with Covid

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/08/2020 21:03

I'm started coughing yesterday so had a test this morning. As the day's gone on I've developed a bunged up runny nose so I'm now thinking I've got a cold.

yarncakes · 24/08/2020 08:45

@PinkSparklyPussyCat did you get your results back?

Cookerhood · 24/08/2020 08:48

At our local testing place anyone can get a test. I know of a mobile hairdresser who gets one once a week to reassure her elderly clients.

Treesofwood · 24/08/2020 08:51

Nhs symptom tracker would not recommend a test. They are not symptoms of covid.

Baaaahhhhh · 24/08/2020 08:59

I had an a silhouette awful cold and cough a couple of weeks ago. I booked a drive through test within an hour, and got results within 24 hours. Go to a drive through if you can much quicker. And you don't need to have the tick list symptoms, there is a box that says none, but you still get a test.

feelingverylazytoday · 24/08/2020 09:09

@Northernsoullover

Yes, it can. It sounds like a cold but if you can catch a cold you could just as easily caught covid.
Not true, there are more cold viruses circulating than covid-19. The OP can still get tested though.

I got them back the next morning, negative thankfully

yarncakes · 24/08/2020 10:02

Great news. Still haven't got mine. Been since Thursday.

Orchidsindoors · 24/08/2020 10:05

I've had cold symptoms for the last few days but very low level, slightly runny nose, blocked ears, lots of sneezing, but not unwell enough to not go anywhere. But...I've had this on and off for all of lockdown and it gets better as the day goes on (worse in the mornings), so pretty confident it's a cold or hayfever. I wouldnt order a test unless I had a temperature. Otherwise I'd have done 20 tests by now.

yarncakes · 24/08/2020 10:34

Results back - negative! So yep.. A stinking bloody cold.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/08/2020 11:30

That's good @yarncakes. There seems to be a lot of difference between the time it takes to get the results though. I don't understand why any drive through tests can't get the results the same day

ilovebagpuss · 24/08/2020 12:02

I had Covid and thought it was a bad cold I did not have a cough but I did have runny nose and headache and chills. I did loose my sense of taste but not until the end of the week.
I think a lot of the symptoms are very close to a cold and I didn’t feel anything unusual like you imagine Covid will be as in new feelings or raging temp.
I had an antibody test but wish I had been tested at the time as I might have taken better care to isolate and take care of myself.

yarncakes · 24/08/2020 14:19

You might have had coronavirus before or after your cold like symptoms? Do you think you had covid when you thought you had a cold?

RunningHoops · 24/08/2020 18:29

I don't understand why you wouldn't get a test.
