I can`t believe all the people moaning about being put back in lockdown, after Leicester has never really been out of lockdownAngryAngry
Two or three days, if I remember correctly, they spent out of lockdown before being put straight back in, as the first localised place to be put in lockdownShockShock
So, for the last month, while the whole of the UK has been enjoying more freedom, the people of Leicester have still been locked up in lockdown & now you are moaningShockAngry
I have no other words to convey my despairSadSad

This new lockdown spans 5 million people. Calling it ‘local’ is a massive stretch of the word.

ShabbyNat · 31/07/2020 00:03

It is local when you think of the UK as a whole & how many places & people that meansShockShock

I think it is because many are of the opinion that it is a blanket ban for for example all ten authorities in Gtr Mcr, when the actual concern is for some of the higher covid stats areas where many residents would be visiting multi-household tomorrow through to Monday for Eid-al-Adha.
It cannot be seen as targeting muslim demographic only hence the blanket ban. I don't care, I am not going anywhere. It will be interesting whether similar announcements occur at 10pm on Xmas Eve though. What's good for the goose...

ShabbyNat · 31/07/2020 00:05

Leicester is not that small, as to call it a local village type place

If there was an announcement of a lockdown at 10pm on Christmas eve , I'm sure there would be plenty of people 'moaning'.

Sunshine124 · 31/07/2020 00:14

Yes I’m moaning OP. I was going to visit my in laws for the first time since March. They have seen my little boy twice since he was born in November. We couldn’t go sooner as my husband is a key worker and this is the first weekend he has had off since the restrictions eased to allow overnight stays. They live in a village but fall under greater Manchester. It is affecting a much larger number of people and unlike Leicester is not postcode specific!

BakedCam · 31/07/2020 00:22

No area has been put 'back in lockdown'

Restrictions have been placed on 5 million people in Greater Manchester, some parts of North Yorkshire and East Lancashire.

So because Leicester is under restrictions you're in the depths of despair because similar restrictions aren't being welcomed in other places? For fucks sake.

Orchidsindoors · 31/07/2020 09:03

Do you always despair over stuff like this? Do you live in any of these areas?

Pelleas · 31/07/2020 12:26

I'm in one of the new restricted areas and I'm glad something is being done. I've been despairing as I've watched the case numbers rise and rise in my local area. It should have been done sooner.

Thanks, Flax for correction. I wasn't sure. 😃

I'm in one of the restricted areas. I'm pissed off to be honest. When the country went into lock down I was able to use the key worker provision at my sons preschool to work. Now I'm faced with the choice of taking unpaid leave or risking a fine by breaking the restrictions. Its the school holidays... many many people will be relying on family for childcare yet there has been no mention of this in the new guidance. The reality is that I will have to knowingly break the law in the coming weeks because I can't afford to take unpaid leave and my ward is already working on the bare minimum of nurses as it is so there's no way I can take the leave.

BatShite · 31/07/2020 23:15

Not really seeing what Leicester being in lockdown has to do with people pissed off about this new 'local' (5m people..) lockdown thing really.

That comes across a bit..'you are whinging about being hungry after not being fed for 5 days when some people haven't ate for months!!'. As if noone can whinge about anything because theres always someone worse off, which is technically true but..not really how life works.
