Should we assume we will all be in masks for the forseeable future?

It occurs to me that the " its safe to remove masks" message won't be coming any time soon.

I am concerned that mask wearing does not have any specific review dates... We have had this imposed and there seems no legal requirement for the government to review it.
I hate wearing a mask for shopping, so the days of a nice Saturday mooching round shops, lunch out, maybe afternoon in a museum.. Where I would be spending, probably quite a bit if got dds in tow, are gone.
Pretty good for my bank balance as I can't be bothered to buy things online...
But bad for the economy.

Exactly @Theredjellybean
I'm concerned too there's no review date it seems like there's no end because there's no review date

@HeIenaDove

I have seen disgusting comments from both sides.
But only one side has decided to 'other' those that they don'y like and label them and then use that label to try to shutdown discussions.

It is the anti dementors that use emotive language such as 'face nappies' and 'muzzles' for masks.

I'm not going to claim that the side that has been labeled as "dementors" are saints, but labelling and othering people is something that should never be done.

username2020, I just wanted to say I'm sorry to read about your situation. Is there how some legislation that requires proper adaptations for disabled people?

@FrippEnos Ive never used the terms face nappies or muzzles personally.

The disability discrimination is off the charts. So is the gaslighting.

Many of us are wearing masks where we are supposed to.....me included.

But because i wont go to a lot of places where they are required i was told i was refusing to wear a mask. And im not

Walking into a place without a mask on is refusal. And im not

This is gaslighting. Which hasnt happened me on those other threads.

Ive seen those who are exempt due to disability or PTSD basically told to continue to struggle and persevere

I find it very strange that we are all in it together but we are not are we. We are only "all in it together" when it comes to Covid. When its social housing , domestic abuse, misogyny, disability discrimination a different tune is played.

And in a lot of cases the "all in this together" rhetoric has come from those who have spent the last ten years voting for individualism.

HeIenaDove

Yet others who have classed themselves as "anti-dementors" have.

Have those that have said disabilist things classed themselves as dementors or have you and others labelled them as such.

If I were to label them I would just label them as arseholes.
I wouldn't feel the need to lump them in with another group that someone has been labelled for thinking differently than they do.

CDC director says wearing a face mask is safer than vaccine

Published on Sep 16, 2020
The director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that face masks are more guaranteed to protect from coronavirus than a vaccine.

Speaking at a Senate hearing on the federal coronavirus response, CDC director Robert Redfield said if all Americans embraced masks for six to 12 weeks, they would bring the pandemic under control.

"I'm not going to comment directly about the president but I am going to comment as the CDC director that face masks, these face masks are the most important powerful public health tool we have," Mr Redfield said.

Inkpaperstars · 17/09/2020 03:10

I am sorry to hear that some of you have valid reasons not to wear a mask but are finding people too confrontational and so ending up staying at home.

I haven't confronted anyone and I wouldn't, but I do think some of the blame lies with those who are just not bothering. We all know that sometimes the number not wearing masks in a supermarket for example is much too high to be from exemption. I saw a group of men in their thirties chatting in Asda, all maskless, seemed a bit of a coincidence they are all exempt. They don't give a thought to the impact on those who genuinely cannot wear masks.

Maybe it would be helpful if some places like museums or even shops could say, we will ask re exemptions/masks on the door, please do challenge others. Or even just to have notices saying please do not challenge others, leave staff to manage masks. So difficult to balance as there does need to be a degree of social pressure, but tackling random people about it is not acceptable.

Inkpaperstars · 17/09/2020 03:11

Ridiculous typo, should say please do NOT challenge others! Arghh.

Yes, it's gone really well since we introduced masks. Poor old Sweden, no masks, infections raging out of control. Thank God we don't have that problem now we have masks. It's all but over in many places in Africa now, thanks to all their mask wearing.
