Mask Protection

A soon to be published study provides evidence that wearing a face mask not only reduces community transmission, but also reduces the viral load and severity of symptoms if a person becomes infected.

If we want schools to remain open this winter, we can increase the chances of that happening by asking children and teachers to wear masks. A simple measure that will help protect others and protect ourselves.

That sounds really positive. Good news. A simple measure we can all get behind because one thing we all agree on is the importance of getting our children back to school.

I desperately hope schools listen.

@lunar1

I desperately hope schools listen.
And local and central government. Lots of people could make masks at schools a thing.

Christ I hope not. Behaviour is bad enough sometimes without 1) kids claiming they can’t hear what you do 2) making stupid noises behind their own masks and not being able to identify who it is.

Aside from this we have so many kids with ‘issues’ already. This will tip them over the edge. There will be a number of parents that simply won’t send their kids if they don’t absolutely have to. The area I teach in lots of parents don’t work so it’s not a major issue for them if they don’t send them.

Constant touching and removing them will make them practically ineffective.

Selfishly as a teacher I don’t want to wear one either. I hate them. I feel it dehumanises people and I hate not being able to see people’s facial expressions.

Why do you keep starting endless threads all saying the same thing?

What is your agenda and what is it you expect the average mumsnetter to do?

You want kids to not go back to school fully and wear masks when they are there. We get it. Why start multiple threads all saying the same thing instead of lobbying your MP?

Saucery · 28/07/2020 19:05

Makes sense. Anything that reduces the spread is useful.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/07/2020 19:21

You can't teach wearing a mask and kids can't learn wearing masks. Not the kids we have anyway. The kids will go back and teachers and ta's will work without protection so children receive an education. People will still be cross with teachers 'cos reasons.

Ffs climbdad🤣 you are clogging up the whole board today!

Constant touching and removing them will make them practically ineffective.

If masks protect others from you rather than vice versa, I’m not sure that touching the masks makes that much difference. Transmission of the virus is predominantly through the breath not from surfaces....
