Common cold?

LolaLollypop · 28/07/2020 08:53

I've woken up with what I can describe as symptoms of the common cold - bit of a sore throat, runny nose and blocked sinuses. There has been a sniffle going around DD's nursery last week (one boy was actually tested for Covid, was negative). I feel ok, no fever or cough and I can taste everything. Would you act as though it could be possible Covid symptoms and isolate? I've got a few things on this week that I could really do with attending.
I guess this is going to happen more and more as the cold season starts. I'm pretty sure it isn't Covid but feel guilty about heading out when I know I have a sniffle!

you could get tested rather than isolate

Littlebelina · 28/07/2020 08:58

Agree with dementedpixie, if you are concerned see if you can get tested. Results can be pretty quick at moment

LolaLollypop · 28/07/2020 09:21

Yes, better to be safe than sorry. I've booked a test!

I also have a cold. No fever, cough or loss of taste/smell but am considering booking a test. How long will it take fro me booking on line to having the test to getting the results? I’m aware it will vary!

LolaLollypop · 28/07/2020 12:53

Just got back from my test. Very easy to book, you register online and then choose a time slot (I'm in London and there was availability all day at my nearest centre). Opted for the drive through test- given a self test kit which was easy to do. Should hopefully have the result tomorrow.

Let us know the outcome LolaLollypop

Glad to have found this thread!
Woke up with cough, sore throat headache. Cough comes snd goes /is not constant. Don't know about temperature as we don't own a thermometer 🤒. Feel hot and cold in waves. Did a spot of gardening and just felt too ill to be bothered. Dilemma.
Have ordered a thermometer online to arrive tomorrow.
Looked at the test site /lots I could drive to today but no slots tomorrow or next day do presume they release them on the day?
Have cancelled a meeting I was due to go to tomorrow, as don't want to pass on a cold and give others the same dilemma!
It wouldn't really be a problem for me to self isolate as I am a teacher so not due back at work for a few more weeks, but would be total hassle for peeps I have seen over the last weekShock

Lily2020 · 28/07/2020 15:26

In exactly the same boat cold symptoms but no cough, I have a 2 year old with cold & temperature so we went for a test this morning, when we get results ( I'm sure will be negative) we can go on as usual 🤞🏽

CaptainWentworth · 28/07/2020 15:31

We had the same here - DD 21 months had a runny nose and wasn’t herself although not really a fever: DH had it much worse and was feeling like death yesterday and Sunday. He is a GP so couldn’t go to work yesterday and got tested and was negative so all ok.

DD is due in nursery tomorrow and I was worried about sending her in if she still has a snotty nose (she is otherwise back to her normal self) - I called nursery to check and they said send her in but I will have to collect her if she gets a temp. Like the OP I just feel awful that she might infect another child and then they have to get tested which isn’t very pleasant, but as nursery said the only other option at the moment is not to have any kids in basically as they are all full of colds having started mixing again after so long. I’m dreading a whole winter of this!

I've felt a bit off it for a couple of days, sore throat, dizzy, slightly achy. Booked a test this morning as I visit elderly parents every week so thought it prudent. I hardly go anywhere so hoping it's negative! Results hopefully will be quick.

lifeafter50 · 28/07/2020 18:11

How long to test results take?

CaptainWentworth · 28/07/2020 19:03

Less than 24 hours in our case (DH tested about 10am yesterday, got a text early this morning with negative result)

Bluewavescrashing · 28/07/2020 19:05

Get well soon OP Flowers

LolaLollypop · 29/07/2020 09:32

Thanks @Bluewavescrashing

Woke up to my test result this morning - thankfully negative! Very efficient service and good to have the peace of mind.

So just confirmed I have a stinking cold Sad.

@LolaLollypop glad you got a negative result! Did they email or text? Still waiting for ours

BarefootHippieChick · 29/07/2020 10:04

That's good news lola . Mine is negative too, had an email last night and a text this morning. Just goes to show you though, no matter how little you go out or interact with people, you can still pick something up!

AllMyGreggsInOneBasket · 29/07/2020 10:12

Lola I had an almost identical experience to you, mild cold symptoms, DS had been at school so I wondered if he’d brought it back from there - the rest of us had barely been out. I logged my symptoms on the Covid app and after the second day of mentioning a sore throat I was invited for a test so I had one, and got a negative result the next day.

cretelover · 29/07/2020 13:46

I've had bad sinuses, snotty nose, sore eyes, sore throat recently and have realised it's hayfever. It's been really bad in our area this year, midlands, I've never suffered with it before but classic symptoms when I looked it up and antihistamines work so must be it. Just something to bear in mind.

lifeafter50 · 29/07/2020 14:52

So glad to hear your result!
Interesting that colds are going round.

onlinelinda · 29/07/2020 16:29

My daughter and I had big standard colds last week too.

onlinelinda · 29/07/2020 16:30

Bog standard.

MaidenMotherCrone · 29/07/2020 16:42

You don't need to book a test actually. You can turn up and you will be given a self registration card to register your test online.

Better to go and be negative than not bother because you don't think you have it.
