Dd starts school in September. A lot has been taken away anyway due to Covid, like no book bags or books sent home etc. We went school shoe shopping today to a local shop and she picked some lovely shoes.

A friend has just told me that the school are saying this- I must have missed read it!

I’m not bothered about her changing into trainers to play outside.

:(

Can you just get her a pair of trainers as well?

Sofasogood1 · 27/07/2020 13:47

Oh well never mind? Take the shoes back?Hmm

bookmum08 · 27/07/2020 13:48

Return them to the shop and get a refund. Buy trainers.

justdontatme · 27/07/2020 13:49

Just return them!

I would love not to have to buy school shoes. Ours have said the opposite, have to have school shoes in Sept!

Tallace · 27/07/2020 13:50

You can return them if she hasnt worn them outside

Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 14:00

I feel sad though. It’s abit special buying the first school shoes I think.

I don’t understand why they can’t wear school
Shoes?

Trainers are suitable for PE/lessons/outside play

School shoes are only suitable for lessons

They want as fewer changes as possible

So trainers are better

A) Return the shoes. Buy trainers
B) Keep the shoes. Also buy trainers

Newnamenewopenme · 27/07/2020 14:07

Because they don’t want extra items cluttering up when they will have to clean during the day. They’re saying PE kit so there aren’t extra bags around and items of clothing that kids lose. If you don’t follow it you will give the impression of being the difficult parent, there’s normally one in every year group 😂

Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 14:08

How are school shoes only suitable for lessons? That’s what I don’t understand lol. My older two have never needed trainers for play?

OP posts:
BeyondMyWits · 27/07/2020 14:10

Teachers do not want to help 30 kids into and out of pe kit and proper shoes. In reception year there is a lot of close contact required to get kids into whatever attire is required. They also don't want the stuff lying around getting mixed up between kids.

There is a global pandemic on....

It is not hard to see why all this might be "new" for this new school year initially.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/07/2020 14:12

Many school shoes, especially girls' ones won't be suitable for proper PE rather than just running round the playground

awhitemouseinthehouse · 27/07/2020 14:13

My DS' feet would corrode all day in trainers, he's a sweaty thing and prone to blisters in synthetic shoes. We have bought trainer like Clark's school leather shoes.

Palavah · 27/07/2020 14:16

The implication from the photo you've posted is that the children change from school shoes into trainers for breaktime?
We never did that - we ran about in school shoes, but then we tended to wear sensible lace-ups. Unless that's what you've bought and you're also buying trainers for PE days, I would return them.

LockdownWaistline · 27/07/2020 14:18

Our school does the PE kit thing in normal times too. They announce at the start of the year and each class wear kit one day a week so there's no changing.

Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 14:18

The shoes are actually really sturdy and
Cost a small fortune. She has high bridge (??) so has to have comfortable shoes.

My older two go to the same school and have never had to change their shoes before play time. And on their website under uniform there’s no mention of trainers for playtime.

For the first term there is no pe. Howe er you'll be informed what day is pe day for the 2nd term and on those days they'll wear pe kit all day.

Take the shoes back and seal for trainers.
No it won't look as nice but she'll prob be more comfy a

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/07/2020 14:25

I think this is a grey area as my son’s primary have said similar but also accepted a second pair of shoes will be needed if the trainers get wet during PE.

Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 14:25

It’s just abit sad :(

She’s never ever worn trainers and is used to wearing Mary Jane shoes as she only wears dresses lol,

Will order her some trainers and keep the shoes too x

My secondary school had black shoes for indoors and brown shoes for outdoors

Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 14:30

I’m struggling massively mentally during this pandemic and it’s just another thing that we don’t have control over

OP posts:
DominaShantotto · 27/07/2020 14:33

I'd take it, if you know that the school is not one where kids change into indoor and outdoor shoes, that they're saying basically to parents - make sure they have trainers for PE days and if you have to scrimp on something - ditch the fancy school shoes for now.

The infants mine have just left have changed their uniform for now to get rid of uniform bottoms completely in favour of tracksuit bottoms for this year - because they're planning on having them outdoors as much as possible.

The juniors are doing PE kits all day on PE days as well (I'm fucking loving that - so much easier for my child with motor difficulties) and no bloody ties (again thank fuck)!

Danglingmod · 27/07/2020 14:33

Just let her wear school shoes for play, too. Properly fitted decent shoes are much better for small children's feet than trainers.

Get her some Clarks doodles style shoes that come in Mary Jane style? There are loads of lovely "girlie" style trainers in the stores that she'd probably love anyway - you've quite possibly got hung up on always buying her one style of shoe.

Mind you my daughter's currently rocking Batman trainers from the boys' section because she knows she likes her superheroes!

Thats not how I interpreted it. I read it as, for the first term, don't bring a PE bag into school to be kept on your child's peg as we need to keep the cloakrooms clutter free, instead, your child will be told what day they will have PE on and on that day your child should turn up to school in and wear their PE kit all day. The situation will be reassessed at half term.
