When the schools go back....

When the schools go back be that august or september depending on where you are, what will you be doing differently?

Will you actually send your dc in a full clean uniform daily?

What about coats? Bags? Shoes? Will you be cleaning these in any way?

Will your dc have a bath or shower as soon as they get home?

No won't be cleaning coats, bag, shoes... Will just be taking them off as walk in the door as alway do.
No bath or shower as soon as they come home... The only people I know who do this work with potenital/covid patients.

The one and only thing we will do different is get them to thoroughly wash hands once they are home.

frozendaisy · 27/07/2020 10:43

Yes they will have full set of clean uniform each day, both schools have said if they have PE that day they should go in in PE kit as for the time being no changing at school.

Our schools have said, send in fully equipped pencil case that stays in school. There will be no library books but they can take in a reading book from home to have at school that can be brought home when finished. Basically reducing items brought to-from home and school.

We did half a term with a Y6, they washed hands and got changed as soon as we got home, but he walked home in September have to collect in car so might get him to hand sanitize as I collect him. I wiped down his lunch bag thing and washed water bottle as we got home and put clothes into washing machine. I gave him travel hand sanitizer in his pencil case. Not that he used it but that was his call.

I didn't wipe shoes.

But just did these few things that took seconds, partly for good routine going into autumn/winter I wasn't in the slightest concerned he had caught anything but this was just Y6 in the whole school. September will be less distanced.

I will also give him a mask or two he can wear if he wants, or has to. They will be thrown straight into wash of course.

We don't make a big deal about it but do the basics as it can't hurt.

Our school have said the children must wear clean clothes every day but it doesn't need to be uniform. So I'm going to send DS in wearing T-shirt, joggers etc as those sort of clothes will be easier to wash regularly than uniform.

Otherwise same as pp - a good handwash but not a shower or bath, or cleaning shoes, coats etc.

ohthegoats · 27/07/2020 11:03

As the teacher, I wore clean clothes every day (bought 5 easily washed jersey dresses), but didn't do anything with shoes - just left them at the door. Washed hands before I left work, or used hand gel on reception, then washed hands when I got home. My bag from school goes straight into the office, although I've been working at home and using stuff from school.

My child was back from 1st June, she had clean uniform every day too - but mostly because somehow she rolls in mud and peanut butter every day, before scribbling all over herself in felt tip pen.

ginsparkles · 27/07/2020 11:05

Clean uniform each day, shower when she gets in (the same as DH and I both do ). Our school have said they are to only take book bags and plastic lunch boxes into school. No pencil cases, nothing from home at all. PE kit is to go into school on Monday and taken home on Friday for cleaning.

ohthegoats · 27/07/2020 11:05

Early on in lockdown, I did more though - I put my clothes straight in the washing machine, and had a shower myself before I hugged anyone in my house. I'd stopped that within a few weeks though because work felt safe and I stopped worrying about it too much. I now know that several parents of our KW children had the virus back then, but we weren't told.

This. Though we have always been big on handwashing when you come in from outside. It shouldn't take Covid to make people discover basic good hygiene.
Mummypig2020 · 27/07/2020 11:12

Our school isn’t allowed bags/books/comforter. They aren’t allowed to take their pe kit and have to wear it on the day.

40somethingJBJ · 27/07/2020 11:12

Ds will be going into year 10 in September and we’ve, so far, received no guidance at all about this kind of thing. Not even sure what’s happening re school buses or lunches. All I know is they’re “bubbling” in year groups, so approximately 240 per bubble, and aren’t staggering start and finish times. Pretty much business as usual then!

PerspicaciaTick · 27/07/2020 11:16

No. I'm thinking of setting up a dumping zone for blazers, bags and shoes in somewhere like the garage though (we don't have a lot of space in the house and I think I'd prefer to keep these items somewhere that they won't be rubbed and touched inadvertently).

MayFayre · 27/07/2020 11:18

Drive rather than send them on the school bus
Wash hands when they get in.
Completely new set of clothes each day - school insisting on this and having a no inform rule for next term.

Ours haven’t asked for full clean uniform every day but will do this anyway as we always have... mine are still young and the school is big on outside learning whatever the weather so they’re always filthy. So nothing different really. They will wash their hands thoroughly when they come in, as they always do (surprised anyone doesn’t do this normally really!).
Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 11:25

I'm not sure what to do about blazers as they are dry clean only. There is a jumper which could use instead perhaps.

hedgehogger1 · 27/07/2020 11:49

The government guidance did say clean uniform each day. It doesn't any more, so back to normal!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/07/2020 11:59

I won't be doing anything differently.

Uhoh2020 · 27/07/2020 12:34

Clean uniform every day apart from eldest blazer that will be washed weekly. Youngest are to go in school in PE kit on PE days and aren't allowed to take bags or anything else in with them. I'll wash their coats weekly. I make them leave their shoes in the porch anyway and wash their hands when they come in .

OhDear2200 · 27/07/2020 12:36

@ohthegoats not thread related but I’m hoping the peanut butter is not at school? Please don’t send your kid in with peanut butter 🙈

Barbie222 · 27/07/2020 12:37

Clean uniform for kids and new clothes for me (teacher) every day, but did this anyway before covid. Washing hands all the time is here to stay now - I actually find myself thinking, "it's been an hour, time to wash again." They just don't feel clean otherwise! Funnily enough I went through a really dry skin patch initially and now my eczema on hands has completely cleared.

OhDear2200 · 27/07/2020 12:42

To answer the OP.

Clean uniform each day, shoes off at door, coats hung up, straight to wash hands thoroughly, dump lunch boxes straight into hot soapy water, bags away till next day. Not hugely different from normal apart from sometimes lunch boxes sit around for a while.

Todaythiscouldbe · 27/07/2020 12:43

There's no way I can provide a full clean uniform every day. I'm not buying another blazer for year 11. The school have said it's full uniform from September so I'm not sure what we'll do.

Intricate56 · 27/07/2020 12:46

No change to normal for us. School have said to take PE bags etc as normal, requirement for clean uniform every day has been dropped. Mine will just thoroughly wash hands when they get home, and change into their own clothes, as we've always done.

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/07/2020 12:48

Mine went back in June, changed their clothes every day, washed their hands before we left the house, and on return. Gave them their own tissues. I didn’t wash their coats, bags and shoe etc and no they didn’t have a shower when they got home... I washed their hands and they changed clothes/.. a lot of Clothes washing is going on!!!

MarshaBradyo · 27/07/2020 12:51

They’ll just wash their hands as they walk in as they did in March.

teablanket · 27/07/2020 12:54

My DS is moving up to secondary in September and we haven't been given any guidance at all yet. It's one of those "Every uniform item must be bought from our very expensive supplier" schools, so unless they drop the prices significantly, we're not in a position to buy umpteen blazers.

BiBabbles · 27/07/2020 12:56

My DDs will be using scooters to get to school rather than riding the bus. With the lower passenger restrictions, I just don't think this late in the route that the bus will be a reliable option. My DS already walked so no change there.

At my DD's school, on PE days, they'll wear their PE kit all day. Their PE bags are going to be used to carry their coats during the day. They already had a clean uniform every day except for the blazer and tie. My DS doesn't have a uniform.

They'll wash-up when they get home just as they do when they get home from the park or elsewhere now, but not baths or showers right away.
