When the schools go back....

When the schools go back be that august or september depending on where you are, what will you be doing differently?

Will you actually send your dc in a full clean uniform daily?

What about coats? Bags? Shoes? Will you be cleaning these in any way?

Will your dc have a bath or shower as soon as they get home?

Not everyone has enough sets of uniform for a clean set each day particularly as some uniforms take a while to dry. No school would be able to complain if everyone went in regular clothes. Schools are no longer allowed to have specific uniform which isn’t readily available and affordable to all. My DC’s and their classmates went to school by tube so no social distancing so what they wear is irrelevant.

My child has worn trainers every day of school since she started. They run around the whole time, often in bad weather or on grass that has been recently rained on. Trainers are the best option.

LaurieMarlow · 27/07/2020 15:34

I’ve literally no idea why someone would be sad about their child wearing trainers. Seriously. 🤷‍♀️

xLovexstoryx · 27/07/2020 15:46

Perhaps she's picked out her daughter's first school shoes for reception and she feels sad she won't get to wear them.

@Mummypig2020

Could always put the shoes on for a photo on her first day and she could perhaps walk to school in them and change into trainers? It's not something to be sad about on the grand scheme of things. My DD got a beautiful cath kidston bag for her birthday. Was in the sale but bags are banned. Age couldn't wait to take it to school. It's ok to feel disappointed Smile

xLovexstoryx · 27/07/2020 15:47

She couldn't wait that should say

RedskyAtnight · 27/07/2020 16:13

Surely there's no problem with wearing school shoes instead of trainers anyway (as long as they are robust enough to cope with playing outside). School shoes that are normally aimed at boys at this age are pretty much like trainers anyway. Depends on the type of shoes that have been purchased (ballet type shoes not ideal).

PumpkinPie2016 · 27/07/2020 16:15

My son is going into year 2 and his school uniform is fairly simple. I always have enough to put a clean set on everyday because he usually comes home with paint/lunch/mud on it. So that will continue.

I won't be wiping down coats/shoes. They are not changing for PE for the first term.

I teach in a secondary school and wear a clean outfit every day anyway. I teach science and invariably end up with something on my clothes, or board pen -I have quite a talent for it Grin So again, no change there. I won't be bringing pupil books home as we are not collecting them in -anything assessed will be submitted online. I won't be wiping down bags/shoes of mine.

Water bottles and my lunch bag are washed/wiped anyway so no different to normal.

It's not very good for feet to wear trainers everyday

Triangularbubble · 27/07/2020 18:37

Genuine question- why isn’t it good for feet to wear a pair of well fitting trainers? They’re not heeled, they fasten properly onto the foot, they enclose the foot and thus keep the foot dry, they’re breathable (I only buy leather ones), they grip.... as long as they fit properly what’s the issue?

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 20:06

Think they are not very supportive for arches and also sweaty? That's my understanding anyway.

lljkk · 27/07/2020 20:12

So what shoes are supposed to be superior - asking as someone with great arches even though I wore only trainers for many yrs.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 20:27

There's dome info online of you google it, podiatry etc basically well fitted (width and length) and with bit of heel...trainers fine for sports etc

I get vibrobarefoot shoes for the DC as quite wide fitting.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 20:27

some info

lljkk · 27/07/2020 20:39

Why is a heel good, and barefoot (no heel, almost no sole) also good. Sounds like heels have no value.

TheFluffiestCat · 27/07/2020 21:11

DD went back in June (Y1). We haven't had instructions for September yet but I'll carry on with clean uniform each day and Dettol spray on the lunchbox with a trip round the washing machine each weekend. I'm not disinfecting shoes or bath/hair wash any more than usual.

HelenaJustina · 28/07/2020 09:23

Guidance is that nothing other than normal washing of clothes is required. Mine won’t have complete change every day, nor will I wipe shoes etc.
I’ve been working in school throughout and have always felt safe, we’ll carry on hand washing at home and I’ll trust the Risk Assessments and procedures I’ve written to protect them in school.

I've worn trainers nearly every day for the last 45 years (except for hiking boots in rain)

My feet are in excellent condition

commentatorz · 28/07/2020 16:06

I'll be operating as normal: fresh polo shirt, underpants and socks every day. Change of jumper and trousers when they look dirty.

commentatorz · 28/07/2020 16:07

I've worn trainers every day for the last 20 years and my feet are awesome. You can also by trainers with different arch support if that's your issue.

OpheliasCrayon · 28/07/2020 16:08

I will do as I have done every day until now. Absolutely nothing different. They're not poisonous once they come home!
