I have had a sore throat since yesterday and no other symptoms, would you get tested or not?

BananaChocolateLump · 27/07/2020 06:57

Absolutely. Better to be sure. Please self isolate until you know.

SpillTheTeaa · 27/07/2020 07:03

Yes. It probably isn't but better to be sure. DS who is 1 and has a croaky throat.

LoisLanyard · 27/07/2020 07:35

But a sore throat isn't listed as one of the symptoms. I thought the guidelines were if you have a high temp, persistent cough and/or loss of sense of taste/smell you need to get tested and isolate?

Tinamou · 27/07/2020 07:37

My friend went for a test with minimal symptoms, it was a very straightforward process and put her mind at rest so I'd say why not.

okiedokieme · 27/07/2020 07:51

Sore throat - no, not a listed symptom. Cough, fever yes.

I would stay home with a sore throat though, just in case it's the very start but I get a lot of sore throats!

lljkk · 27/07/2020 09:03

no, doesn't sound distinctive, not a listed distinctive symptom.
I'm avoiding ppl anyway, so no change there.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2020 09:05

Do you fit any of these criteria?

Would you get a test?
ThatDamnScientist · 27/07/2020 09:08

The ZOE app sent me for a test (or rather I got a home test) with a sore throat. Better safe than sorry.

Kissmyfacemask · 27/07/2020 10:20

Remember these will test positive for any coronavirus, not just covid so potentially you could get a positive for the common cold.

HampsteadHeathen · 27/07/2020 13:15

No, the test is specific to covid 19

yarncakes · 27/07/2020 13:48

I've had a sore throat for weeks due to allergies and I get tested every week (work in a care home). Thankfully, negative every time.

This isn’t true at all.

Hmm Yes, you should need a test.
PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2020 15:15

Hmm Yes, you should need a test.

Based on what? Why the snarky face? Look at the NHS criteria for getting a test I posted further up the thread. The op meets none of them (unless she lives in one of those areas).

Lindy2 · 27/07/2020 15:17

If you were part if the Zoe Covid symptom tracker you'd be asked to test for a sore throat. It's safer to get tested and know for sure isn't it.

xLovexstoryx · 27/07/2020 15:20

Probably not. But I'd isolate if I felt poorly just incase. I can't drive and would struggle to go anywhere for one with the kids. Plus the thought of a swab when I'm feeling yucky isn't pleasent. If I had obvious symptoms I'd see the f a test could be sent too me.

Sister in law currently has it. She's lost her taste and smell. She's achy. Tired. She's vomited and felt sick all week. But no fever or cough....

Eeeeeeeok · 27/07/2020 15:31

I had a sinus flare up in June I could not get rid of. I decided to get a drive in test to put my mind at rest. It was thankfully negative. One thing that pursaded me was when I went on to to book and the one test centre I'd selected in my area (there were several) had 1500 appointments available in next 5 days. So plenty of capacity so I didn't feel like I was taking up a valuable test.

oceanbreezy · 27/07/2020 15:42

@PurpleDaisies

Those are the main symptoms but you don’t have to have them to have the Covid test done.

MabelMoo23 · 27/07/2020 15:55

I had a sore throat yesterday (and still do) and completed it on the Covid symptom tracker and despite not having the 3 top symptoms, received an email today instructing me to go for a test

So yes, you need a test

I’ve already been for the test today, literally was out the house 15 minutes, it was drive through and self testing. Very easy, although it makes your eyes water!

That is total crap. If you are going to post information at least educate yourself. FFS
ChristmasinJune · 27/07/2020 18:51

I think that at the point where you're considering getting a test, you just need to get one. They're straightforward to get and will set your mind at rest. I find it disturbing that there's still posters trying to talk you out of it.

MumOfAToddler26 · 29/07/2020 21:37

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I got the test done today 😊
Mabelmoo did you get your results back yet?
