Why Asymptomatic Transmission is Higher in Summer

Here’s a useful explainer on why asymptomatic transmission of respiratory viruses is higher in summer and why symptomatic transmission and mortality is lower.

Prepare for a second wave. If schools are to open with normal class sizes, students and teachers must wear masks.

Exponential growth can be slow
non-linearity is the key thing though...no?

Except we don't know if cases are increasing or if the change in emphasis on testing in places like Leicester and Luton has picked up more asymptomatic cases.

Testing still seems to be picking up clusters of cases with large areas of the U.K. having very low, stable case numbers.

I am entirely open to the idea that there will be a second spike in cases over Winter (although I don't think it's inevitable) although I think a second full lockdown is very unlikely.

September is still 5 weeks away and that's a long time in the life of this thing. How things develop remains to be seen. Nothing is certain.

Australia is mid winter and is seeing much less hospital admissions for flu than normal. I’m hoping that because of the hygiene and isolation rules people won’t struggle into school and work with winter colds and flu and cough over everyone like normal. Then we will hopefully have less winter colds / flus and less covid. The last few years we’ve been ill constantly over the winter with coughs and colds, my son has been admitted to hospital every year with chest infections as he’s asthmatics. The culture of presenteeism is hopefully at an end for good.

There's a fine line between the government/scientists/phe/Mumsnet forecasters/whoever you care to listen to keeping the public aware of the possibility of a 2nd wave and falling into a "boy who cried wolf" situation.
