A second wave in OZ

Watching the numbers in Victoria with devastation, especially reports on aged care deaths and feeling sick as it will get worse. I’m in NSW and as our numbers start climbing with an eeriness that resembles Victoria I can’t believe it’s gone so bad. A month ago I truly believed Australia was the “lucky country” and we had successfully managed to circumnavigate the coronavirus.

I had been so impressed with our Premier at the beginning of this pandemic but I’m furious at her delaying in closing the border with Victoria. Her ideology of open borders wouldn’t not be shifted until disaster was slapping in her face. If you’re in OZ how are you feeling right now?

I’m in Melbourne. In one of the highest areas. Still working. Masks are compulsorary. We are in Stage 3. I am avoiding the supermarket as much as possible. Not going into big shopping centres. Getting Hello Fresh food delivered.
I can’t believe it has turned around so quickly. I quite like the way our Premier has handled things up until recently.
The Hotel quarantine fiasco, using joe blow security guards, who were happy to receive favours. And the BLM protest turned people’s minds, if its good enough for them ... I couldn’t go to my aunties funeral, not co vid related, 450 new cases overnight and 10 deaths.

More bad news in Melbourne. Newborn baby has contracted the virus in hospital. Numbers are still high. The Army is being brought in to help in Elderly Nursing care homes. Elective surgeries are cancelled to free up beds and nurses.

It's horrible, though opinion is divided to whether it's a second wave.
Seven teachers positive in one school, fifty-three schools closed, and the principals' union begging the premier to shut schools down.

Not a happy Melburnian right now. Sad

Echt. Yes, so much for them first saying the virus doesn’t affect children. My daughter is a teacher. And had no option, but to take leave, due to her daughter being high risk. No teachers teaching remote from home.

DippySticky · 28/07/2020 16:29

Yes, so much for them first saying the virus doesn’t affect children

But by and large this is true?

Yes, some children may react badly to the virus but this is vanishingly rare.

Letseatgrandma · 28/07/2020 16:31

Are teachers and children wearing masks in schools? Are parents objecting to it, if so?

motherrunner · 28/07/2020 16:42

@echt I recognise you from the Staffroom. That sounds really worrying. Are schools just ploughing on regardless?

janaus50s · 29/07/2020 12:08

Schools are doing remote learning for the students. While the teachers have to be at school to do the teaching. Essential workers children can attend school.

The final 2 years of high school students are attending school.
Face masks not compulsorary for these students and teachers

janaus50s · 02/08/2020 12:52

Stage 4 lockdown now. Exercise 1 hour day. Can’t go to shop or anywhere more than 5 km from home. Curfew between 8 pm and 5 am
Hope this works. Not looking forward to next 6 weeks. But better than on and off stage 3 for the next 6 months.

Have teachers also been infected not that anyone cares about teachers?

janaus50s · 02/08/2020 15:00

Yes, many teachers have been infected. Schools are now doing remote learning from This week.

Appuskidu · 02/08/2020 15:02

@janaus50s

Yes, many teachers have been infected. Schools are now doing remote learning from This week.
Is that a national decision, or just in certain areas?
YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/08/2020 15:15

Surely we must learn from this?

ineedaholidaynow · 02/08/2020 15:17
