Just that really, I’ve worked long hours on an acute mental health ward throughout the pandemic. I’ve had my mask pulled off, coughed on and spat at by very unwell patients.

I’ve worn a mask all day everyday to protect patients (who rightly don’t have to wear them to protect me) and now if I go to the shops I have to wear them to protect shop staff (who don’t have to wear them to protect me).

The final straw was Rishi’s comments about the frontline teachers, doctors etc getting a pay rise. Of course they should. They deserve it and work damn hard for their money...but so do we and it seems so unfair to link it to Covid when it was what they should have got anyway but not even mention us porters, cleaners, healthcare assistants and nurses. Don’t even get me started on the care staff.

I don’t know, I don’t even want a pay rise really, just some fairness and some recognition from the government would be nice rather than all this bull they keep coming up with.

I don't have any answers but didn't want to read and then leave without replying.

Thank you for everything you've done prior to and during Covid. It sounds as if you've been treated horrifically by some, please know that you are very much appreciated by the vast majority of us. I'm hoping you get some respite soon x

Yeah, it sucks. There is a whole lot of unfairness around this thing. As I was sitting up until 2am meaning 4 hours sleep, just to get some fucking peace for a bit, I was furiously jealous of people who were furloughed.

If it makes you feel any better about teacher payrises, they have to be funded from existing budgets, which are already stretched by normal stuff and by needing to pay for extra cleaners and cleaning gear. It will be either no pay rises, or pay rises for some financed by the redundancy of others.
