Car sharing

Can you please let me know if I'm being unreasonable? DH is visiting a customer tomorrow about a 100 mile journey and is taking a work colleague with him in our car... I'm concerned about this but not sure if I'm just being over cautious. Obviously he works with him and has done throughout lock down (they are very socially distanced whilst in work) but it feels a bit to close for comfort with them sharing a car and him being in our car

I would personally be concerned too. The bottom line is that if the colleague happens to be infectious with Covid, your DH will almost certainly contract it too by sharing a car for a 100 mile journey. However, statistically the chances of the colleague being infectious but asymptomatic on the day of the journey are low. Exactly how low depends on where the colleague lives and how many individuals he has been in close contact with over the past fortnight.

They should both wear masks. It's an enclosed space without being able to social distance.

Tell your husband he has to keep all the windows open
All the way there and all the way back

Seriously though, I would consider this to be risky, even if they both wear masks

Mylittlepony374 · 21/07/2020 22:30

I'd be uncomfortable with it but if they both wore masks and kept windows open that would mitigate risk.

Yetiyoga · 21/07/2020 22:37

I would do it.

Been lift sharing with a colleague for the past 4-5 weeks now. Granted I work in a school so the whole 'covid safe' thing doesn't really seem to apply, however, we know each other well and have weighed up the risks.

It's close contact, but then it is only one person. Realistically based on how much your partner knows of him what's the chances of him having it? Statically in my area it's probably less than 5 in 20,000 cases - even accounting for untested/asymptomatic. If he's been very safe so far, chances are even less.

I car shared today with a work colleague. Didn't wear masks

DamitJanet · 22/07/2020 06:32

If they have to do it then the best option would be for both to wear masks, colleague to sit in the back, behind the passenger seat, and keep the windows open. Many would say that’s OTT though.

labyrinthloafer · 22/07/2020 06:40

I would not do this and work should not require it.

I took my Mum in the car last week, shes not a confident driver and we were both going out together so rather than take two cars she decided to come with me but she wore a mask and we had the windows open
