Going back to the gym?

How are you all feeling about going back to the gym? Mine is due to open and I do want to go back as I’m WFH and not getting any exercise.

I’m overweight and keen to get fit but I read a graph by the texas medical association who classed it as a “high risk” activity - now I’m dithering?

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't go back to the gym yet. Being inside with lots of sweaty people sounds like a perfect environment for the virus.

Go for a run outside instead!

Nicknacky · 21/07/2020 20:51

I will be delighted to go back. We are just this week back outdoors doing sessions and it’s great to be back.

I’ve been working out at home and enjoyed the change but I’m ready to work out with people again.

Dancingalong · 21/07/2020 21:02

I’ll be going back on a Saturday, can’t wait.

Parker231 · 21/07/2020 21:03

Am looking forward to proper gym training. Zoom and outdoor classes aren’t really enough.

Janaih · 21/07/2020 21:07

I've been working out at home and enjoying it. It's nice to have the change of scenery at the gym though, as well as the range of equipment. I'm reluctant to start paying again if there are going to be limits on numbers or you have to book WTC.

Janaih · 21/07/2020 21:07

WTC should say in advance!

Nicknacky · 21/07/2020 21:08

I’ve got to book now, can only do a class a week. It’s an expensive membership at the moment!

Orangeblossom78 · 21/07/2020 21:09

I am going swimming but might do yoga at home or in the dark, will see what it is like and how much demand. (if classes are smaller may get booked up)

Orangeblossom78 · 21/07/2020 21:09

in the park not the dark!

Nicknacky · 21/07/2020 21:11

😂

pennysea · 21/07/2020 21:14

I'm eager to get back to the gym. I've been really careful throughout this pandemic and been overly cautious at times. But after months of working from home I've piled the weight on and I'm happy to take the risk. My physical and mental health are suffering.

Cociabutter · 21/07/2020 21:16

Yep can't wait

chunkyrun · 21/07/2020 21:16

I can't wait! Pure gym was really good before closer. Limited people in. Constant cleaning of items. Cleaning stations. People and equipment spaced apart.

cyclingmad · 21/07/2020 21:17

Uff I'm looking forward to going back but they won't say how many slots u can book, can you block book etc. I don't understand why they are hiding that info

Brightermornings · 21/07/2020 21:18

I've put my membership on hold. I've been lucky I've been able to find some outdoor classes which I really enjoy. Will review once the weather changes.

ListeningQuietly · 21/07/2020 21:22

Counting down the hours
already booked my classes for next week
just have to fit into my swimsuit !

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 21/07/2020 21:33

I kind of feel (being under 40 and in good health) that there are more health benefits to going than the risk of getting (and potentially spreading Covid)

Ugh wish I hadn’t seen that graph!

ListeningQuietly · 21/07/2020 21:42

The Texas chart is for Texas.
What is the risk profile where you are and at your gym?

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 21/07/2020 21:43

So we had 25 infections in a population of 250k last week - incredibly low I would say.

My logical brain is saying that!

If you're not managing to exercise in other ways to make up for it, this almost certainly true for you by a huge margin.

(and potentially spreading Covid)

This is the bigger risk to others, but of course the chances of another gym user actually having the virus is currently extremely low, so embrace track and trace and be prepared to isolate if someone does, but otherwise the risks of this are very low. If community levels increase then you might want to adjust the gym visits, at the moment though the risk of getting it is very low.

Liverpoolarefab · 21/07/2020 21:49

I can't wait to go back and will from Saturday. The gym was an important part of my life and I miss it a lot. I agree with pp that the risk from catching Covid at the gym at the moment is very low , so I want to make the most of it while I can - as things may change in the autumn / winter. (Hopefully not though).

ListeningQuietly · 21/07/2020 21:49

I'm a lot older than you.
I've been out and about for work right through Lockdown
I've been to the supermarket unmasked several times a week every week
I do not consider going swimming and attending a yoga class as increasing my risk

that is my view on my situation

Inituntiltheend · 21/07/2020 21:50

I am back (Northern Ireland) we opened. It’s great, better than usual no sharing equipment and everyone with their own spot! So far so good lol

Dozer · 21/07/2020 21:51

No thanks, my gym is quite cramped and would be droplet-tastic! Will continue to exercise outdoors / at home.

Pipandmum · 21/07/2020 21:53

Looking at all the measures the gym is putting in place and I have no worries about going back.
