What do you think he will be announcing?

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 16/07/2020 17:10

So he's announced they are opening schools 24/7/20

The first day of the summer holidays 🤦🏼‍♀️

alreadytaken · 16/07/2020 17:12

perhaps it will be "if you've had a test here ... please get another one" and btw sorry Leicester you are locked down because we bought dud tests. (Of course the last bit wont be in there). Thank god I've managed to miss the ukekele, although maybe more people would keep their distance if I got one. -

Leicester schools closed for the summer on 10 July.

Ellie56 · 16/07/2020 17:19

They have discovered a cure for Boris? Grin Grin

We should be so lucky.

AnyFucker · 16/07/2020 17:19

Wot's occurring ?

Mumratheevergiving · 16/07/2020 17:25

How much have we paid out for the Randox tests Mr Hancock - will the public be getting it's money back for the duds!

Absolute bollocks that Hancock said the same as the Chief Scientific Officer about lockdown start! I don't know how he can try and spin all this as positive!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2020 17:31

Lifting restrictions on schools opening 2 weeks into the summer holidays is a new one for the play book.

How to ease lockdown without actually easing lockdown Hmm

DuncinToffee · 16/07/2020 17:32

Leicester will remain in a local lockdown but with some measures relaxed, the health secretary has announced.
Matt Hancock said that from 24 July, restrictions will be lifted for schools and some shops.
There will be a "local power" to close non-essential retail where necessary, he added.
But restrictions on travel and only having social-distanced gatherings of up to six people will remain in force.

sky news

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/07/2020 17:35

What????? He’s opening schools when they are closed anyway for summer???

I don’t understand this.

Babyroobs · 16/07/2020 17:38

Very relieved our area will have lockdown restrictions lifted but sorry for my friends and colleagues in Leicester city area.

Bannerwag66 · 16/07/2020 17:38

Will opening schools help with school held summer camps to get people back to work?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 16/07/2020 17:38

I wonder if it's to encourage the summer schools being run to catch up the exam year groups.

Hollyhobbi · 16/07/2020 17:43

If it was announced here in Ireland that the schools were to reopen during the summer holidays there would be a teachers strike!

Mumratheevergiving · 16/07/2020 17:44

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime - I wonder if it's to encourage the summer schools being run to catch up the exam year groups.
Which summer schools? They were mentioned by the Government in June & i've not heard anything since on remedial catch up over summer?

HesMyLobster · 16/07/2020 17:49

Our school (primary) is running a catch up summer school for all year groups who haven't been in school yet.

Mojitoonthebeach · 16/07/2020 17:55

What? Schools are opening at the end of this month?!

Fedup21 · 16/07/2020 17:56

No LEA schools here are. I would imagine that is most unusual.

FedUp Grin

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 16/07/2020 17:59

@mumratheevergiving I would imagine it is down to the individual schools and teachers being willing to volunteer. Staff in my school are going in the last week of August to run sessions for year 10s. Optional for the students, they sign up in advance for the classes they need support in and then we are staffing around them.

Uhoh2020 · 16/07/2020 18:03

Some schools will open for holiday clubs or catch up learning.

Was anything else announced other than the Leicester lockdown restrictions? I missed it

Mumratheevergiving · 16/07/2020 18:15

I'm surprised that some schools are providing on-site catch up provsion over summer, nothing like that in my town or that my friends and family (scattered around UK) have been offered. Obviously a postcode lottery.

HP its very good of the staff in your school to volunteer, I wouldn't expect them to use their annual leave and hope the staff will be paid.

MargotLovedTom1 · 16/07/2020 18:17

How is it fair if some schools offer catch up/ extra support over the holidays for Y10, and other schools give sweet FA? GCSE in 2021 are going to be a joke.

SusieOwl4 · 16/07/2020 18:21

@Mumratheevergiving

Can you just not wait to see what the conclusion is ? Investigation under way .

“We’ve identified some swabs that are not up to the usual high standard that we expect, and we’ll be carrying out further testing of this batch as a precautionary measure.

“And while we investigate further, we’re requesting that the use of these Randox swab test kits is paused in all settings until further notice. Clinical advice is that there is no evidence of any harm, the test results are not affected.”

Trying to change history by lying about when they locked down!
