Interesting info re mask from NHS Doctor

Not so much interesting as... obvious? Sorry if that sounds rude but I honestly can't understand why anyone thinks a mask would lower your oxygen sats significantly. We're not all walking about hospitals with oxygen deprivation and brain damage from constant mask wearing for the last 4 months.

People don't honestly think that surgeons and theatre staff have suffered oxygen deprivation or CO2 retention daily for years do they? Did they think their surgeon was suffering oxygen deprivation or suffocating whilst operating on them?

HolyCorona · 15/07/2020 09:54

Yes, obvious, however there have been so many comments from people 'struggling to breath' in a mask.

I had to wear one for 3 hours yesterday in the hairdressers. It was sweaty and hot and not very pleasant and I can see why people might feel claustrophobic. But levels of oxygen really shouldn't be an issue for anyone with normal lung function.

My normal oxygen saturation is between 88 and 90% so quite low. It's 88 - 90% with a mask on too so even with abnormal lung function a mask makes no difference to me.

I saw a tweet fromRichard Osman this morning:

“Look, most people are going to wear masks, just like most people were kind and careful throughout lockdown. So stop engaging with the 'no facemasks' gang. They don't mean it, they're showing off to their mates. Give your attention to quiet, empathetic, secure people”
