Gyms and swimming pools

Just want to gather people's thoughts and views on these? I am a member but I think my gym (which also has a pool) will extend the freezing for a while longer if we choose, exact details not confirmed yet. I just can't decide how safe it is? What do people think? I do really need the exercise. I have gained so much weight. I feel gross.

*restricted public family sessions, not just Lane and swim clubs

Im desperate to get back swimming, my gym has an indoor and outdoor pool but you have to access them by walking through the coffee shop lounge, the bottom end of the gym and the narrow changing room.

They are also not booking sessions and say they will control numbers by limiting them as and when necessary, for example they are planning on holding people in the indoor pool if the outdoor pool is busy this weekend when it's hot. They were also talking about max 5 people in a lane which is my idea of hell in normal times.

So there's no way I'm going back yet, I've told them as much & they have frozen my membership for another month.

My local pool (with 8 lanes usually) is reopening on Saturday and you can book a 50 minute lane swim in a wider lane (so I assume 4 lanes) but they've not said how many people in a lane.

I think I'd go if I got a lane to myself for 30 minutes but I don't really want to share with say 5 other people - nothing really to do with covid, just people getting in the way of each other. It's ok in a lesson because everyone is doing the same thing and we know how fast we are, but when it's a group of strangers sharing a lane you just get in each other's way as fast, medium and slow don't really mean much.

Things settled down pretty well yesterday - I tend to move between the slow lane when I'm doing breaststroke and the medium lane for front crawl. It was too busy to feel comfortable doing backcrawl, though. But because we had double lanes, there was plenty of room to overtake, and most people were letting others overtake at the ends if needed. There was one annoying man, but that seems to be the same in almost any session ever.

I think the maximum they're allowing for us is 30 in total, but there weren't that many in the session - don't know how it was earlier in the day. There were fewer in the fast lane - I have been a fast lane swimmer at times in the past, but I'm not fit enough currently. There were a lot of regular swimmers (I recognised the faces) so I think most people know what they're doing at the moment. Again, I don't know if it's the same for all sessions.
