Has anyone had Covid but nobody else in the house got it?

So in early April when I was 35 weeks pregnant, I had the strangest illness. I had two nights of awful, awful heart palpitations. They really frightened me and I wad scared to go to sleep. I've never had palpitations in my life. At the time my partner said if it didn't stop he was taking me to hospital. However they did stop and then I got a few days of chest pain, with a bit of a bad throat. We hadn't been anywhere in weeks but with being pregnant I had been to midwife appointments. At the time I did wonder if it was Covid but my partner and my two kids didn't get ill so I assumed it wasn't possible and just put it down to anxiety or whatever. The reason I suspect Covid again is that I have had a bad throat and chest pain on and off ever since. I had a really bad throat in labour but tested negative. A few weeks ago I had a very bad throat and chest pain again so I did a home test and was negative. But since April I feel like for a few days a week I have a cold. Its mild and doesn't effect my life but it's there and annoying. I have noticed on walks my chest is tight. Being an EY teacher for 10 years and having my own young kids, I have been exposed to so many germs that I haven't had a cold in years and years so it seems weird.
Anyway, that was a long winded way of asking has anyone else had Covid but nobody else in the house got it?

My mum had it confirmed. My stepdad living in the same house didn't get it, or if he did he had no symptoms.

Jedstre · 12/07/2020 13:31

Not in our household but I know quite a few colleagues who’ve had it and their partners and kids haven’t (or if they have, they have been completely asymptotic)

Jrobhatch29 · 12/07/2020 13:32

Oh really? At the time I just assumed because nobody else got it that it was impossible.

80% don't get any symptoms apparently so highly likely in a young family of 4 that only one would have symptoms imo!

SengaStrawberry · 12/07/2020 13:53

My parents’ next door neighbour got it - confirmed by a test.

Family of 7 in a 3 bed house - only 1 other of them got it. Or at least had symptoms.

KitchenConfidential · 12/07/2020 13:58

Family of 6 here. Only two got it (confirmed and 15 days apart) but either the rest of us didn’t or were completely asymptomatic.

ifonly4 · 12/07/2020 14:18

I know someone who lost his life to it. His wife had no symptoms

Fantasmic143 · 12/07/2020 14:21

My DD, 21, had it - confirmed by a test. Three other adults in the house and we were all fine. We were surprised.

fartyface · 12/07/2020 14:21

I am wondering in the other direction. I don't think I have heard of a single case where 2 members (or more) of one household have had is seriously.

Jrobhatch29 · 12/07/2020 14:45

It is so bizarre how this happens. At the time they were constantly spouting about how we are all susceptible and not much was known about asymptomatic cases so I just dismissed the possibility it was Covid. Now I dont know what else would explain this lingering sore throat and chest pain. Popping paracetemol all the time!

I know 4 people who’ve had it. In all cases only one member of the household was ill/tested positive.

You need to get the chest pain and palpitations checked out. I'm amazed you haven't already tbh. You cant just assume everything is CV

My 19 year old ds had it at end of March, not surprised as he works in London so was using public transport. He was pretty sick with it and in bed for 13 days, he isolated in his bedroom and had sole use of main bathroom, no one else in house caught it. I did have a sore throat, headache and a bit of a dodgy stomach 4 days after he became sick so not sure if i had or not though.
My ds had bad palpitations two weeks after becoming sick, he had Kawasaki disease as a child so GP ran an ECG which was fine.

I dont have palpitations anymore. I had them for 2 nights in april and none since. The chest pain is nothing like april either, just a tightness. I am going to ring doctor tonorrow though as it doesnt seem to be going. Its the sore throat all the time that is annoying me

Also I was on a heart monitor after theatre when I had my daughter and was all fine. Ive had blood pressure checks at post natal appointment too. I am more just curious now because of on and off cold symptoms ever since

Could it be anxiety? All of those are symptoms I've had when my anxiety has been really high.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 12/07/2020 15:29

My mum had it and my dad didn't.

XiCi · 12/07/2020 15:30

The palpitations at night are textbook anxiety. You should definitely get checked out though.

That is what I put it down to at the time. They lasted three days but were worse over two nights. Then I got a few days of chest pain and bad throat.

Have you spoken to your doctor?!

JustanotherTuesday · 12/07/2020 15:49

My friend had it and tested positive. Neither her husband, who was still sleeping in the same bed as her nor her three teenagers caught it . Unless they were all asymptomatic.

I am going to ring tomorrow. It hasnt seemed worth it for mild bad throats but now it goes away and comes back a few days later. Assumed it was just being run down after the baby but it seems ongoing. Its annoying more than anything. I just wondered if there was a link to being ill in april as its been since then.

I had it at Christmas but my 2 DDs didn't and thankfully neither didnt my parents who stayed with us for 4 weeks as I was too poorly to look after them alone.

Timetospare · 12/07/2020 15:58

My friends ( husband and wife) both had it confirmed via antibody testing, but their teenage son didn’t test positive for the antibodies and wasn’t ill when his parents were.

ginginchinchin · 12/07/2020 16:05

19 year old granddaughter got it really bad. We were extra worried because her Dad has diabetes, but the rest of the family were fine.
