Has anyone had Covid but nobody else in the house got it?

So in early April when I was 35 weeks pregnant, I had the strangest illness. I had two nights of awful, awful heart palpitations. They really frightened me and I wad scared to go to sleep. I've never had palpitations in my life. At the time my partner said if it didn't stop he was taking me to hospital. However they did stop and then I got a few days of chest pain, with a bit of a bad throat. We hadn't been anywhere in weeks but with being pregnant I had been to midwife appointments. At the time I did wonder if it was Covid but my partner and my two kids didn't get ill so I assumed it wasn't possible and just put it down to anxiety or whatever. The reason I suspect Covid again is that I have had a bad throat and chest pain on and off ever since. I had a really bad throat in labour but tested negative. A few weeks ago I had a very bad throat and chest pain again so I did a home test and was negative. But since April I feel like for a few days a week I have a cold. Its mild and doesn't effect my life but it's there and annoying. I have noticed on walks my chest is tight. Being an EY teacher for 10 years and having my own young kids, I have been exposed to so many germs that I haven't had a cold in years and years so it seems weird.
Anyway, that was a long winded way of asking has anyone else had Covid but nobody else in the house got it?

Yes, me

@Rebelwithallthecause

Chest pains and palpitations aren’t in the (ever growing) list of symptoms though

I had sore throat for weeks
No appetite, no taste or smell, migraines on and off and extreme weakness and tiredness
Only a very mild cough though

I’m assuming everyone got it as family and friends who I saw became very ill some ended up with pneumonia

Some didn’t get any symptoms so I assume they had it but were a symptomatic

Which is why they are so sure people who have been in contact with someone with it should isolate and why it’s so easily spread as it’s done silently without being obvious from just coughs and sneezes

I know of someone who tested positive with only palpitations

I tested positive.

DH and DDs were negative (tested the following day, when I got my positive message).

The week before my positive, DH had a tight chest / trouble breathing when running.

A few days after her negative, DD2 had a slight fever.

Apparently the window for getting a positive is only a couple of days.

Kitcat122 · 12/07/2020 21:23

Family of 6. , 2 definitely, 1 maybe 3 no symptoms.

Northernsoullover · 12/07/2020 21:34

My friend (nurse) had such bad palpitations that she thought she had cardiac problems. No other classic symptoms but she did have a positive test.

Zillaindie · 12/07/2020 21:42

DH was positive with mild symptoms.
The rest of us were all fine. I have since had a negative antibody test despite him not isolating from us at all when symptomatic.

InTheWings · 12/07/2020 22:05

DH had it and the DC and I did not catch it.

DH has been tested and is giving antibodies.

He was really unmistakeabley ill for a full two weeks. Constant sweats, chills, shivering the whole time, headache, lost taste and smell.

So did I at the time. I was crying at one point saying to my partner if I go into early labour I feel like I will have a heart attack. My heart was fluttering allover for 3 days. If it had continued much longer I would have got help

My friend had it, in hospital for 3 weeks, neither or daughter or partner got it.

mightbealittlebitmad · 13/07/2020 07:36

I had symptoms back in March and felt rough for a few days so I kept myself out of the way as much as I could to try to prevent passing it on.

Husband said he felt a bit off about a week later for a few hours one evening, kids had absolutely no symptoms.

Sick bug ripped through our house last year, I was the only one it didn't touch despite me being the one who was running around sorting everybody out.

Ellapaella · 13/07/2020 11:35

I was working frontline NHS throughout the worst of lockdown. I can confirm that many of my colleagues had it, confirmed with positive tests and subsequently had positive antibody tests. Many of them who share houses with partners and family say their family members did not catch it and had no symptoms at all.
My sister had it badly and her husband had a very mild illness around the same time. She couldn't get out of bed for feeling breathless and having chest pain, he had only a mild intermittent dry cough but felt otherwise fine.

If there is immunity from other coronaviruses i would expect a lot of asymptomatic children/parents/nurses etc.
Children have mostly had the other coronaviruses by 5yo so they would have recent immunity.

Yeah this is true. Nursery and early primary teachers would have had alot of exposure to coronavirus colds too. I am an EY teacher and never ever get colds anymore

My stepmum (81,severe asthmatic) had a positive test result on 12th July, no symptoms.
She was tested on Fri 10th as my dad (74, COPD) had positive test on 6th, but wasn’t notified of result until Thurs 9th.
Government guidance is to self isolate and only test if symptomatic.
DD and I saw stepmum on Tuesday 7th as my dad passed away late on 6th (pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis- he died with COVID not because of it).
She told me on 12th of positive test so, despite having no symptoms, DD (23) and I (46) ignored guidance and got tested, along with DH(55) & DS (26).
Results came back within 24 hours....I’m positive (no symptoms) they’re all negative.

Really hard to understand how we live under the same roof yet I’m the only positive and also...if we’d followed guidelines DD and I would have isolated (as we’d seen stepmum) but DH and DS wouldn’t have (as they didn’t!)
Surely guidance should be ‘to test if you’ve had contact with someone who is positive?’ Regardless of symptoms?

I am sorry to hear about your dad Flowers What a lot to be dealing with!

Yeah, it is weird. It seems to happen alot, I have no idea why but would love to know the reason. Glad you have no symptoms!

Maybe swollen neck glands or tonsillitis?

Also having a newborn is so exhausting it really does affect your immune system.
Have you tried a multivitamin?
Having presumably been in hospital to have the baby i would think you are high risk for having caught it.

There does seem to be a link with covid and glandular fever and obviously that does cause very sore throat.

And the other thing people seem to get is acid reflux which could again I expect cause a sore throat?

Yeah Ive been taking multi vitamins for months! I was tested when I had the baby and was negative but it was 4-5 weeks after I had initially been ill. I had been to the hospital for a scan and to midwife appointments prior to being ill though. My throat was sooooo sore in labour and after. I felt rotten a few weeks ago again and did a home test which was also negative. I feel the same again this week! Just annoying, I am going to try anti histamine and if no joy will ring doctor. It probably wasnt covid but at the time I thought it was but then dismissed it when nobody else got any symptoms.

I tested positive. My husband didn't get it or was asymptomatic.

nancy75 · 13/07/2020 15:39

I was unwell in April (3 weeks in bed, no taste or smell at all for 12 days, cough, temp & generally felt exhausted) tests not available then but seems likely I had it. DH & DD totally fine

FirstTimer2020 · 16/07/2020 23:16

Oh my goodness OP, my husband has been the EXACT same since first week of May. He has been fobbed off by the doctor, had 2 covid tests (neg), told it was anxiety, hay-fever, tonsillitis, glandular fever, reflux - all by the same doctor! His throat is still sore on a daily basis! Did you ever call the doctor again?

JEE87 · 18/07/2020 19:28

Do you think you could be suffering with anxiety? Palpitations & chest pain are a classic sign but obviously get checked out. Also your sore throat I've been getting this through the pandemic well not a sore throat more fuzzy feeling if that makes sense? So I've been taking antihistamines & they work so I guess I've got hay fever xx
