Impossible to get a bike!

So! I’ve been trying to get a bike for weeks now for myself and DH. We had always planned to get some this summer as the children have just learnt to ride but now with Covid it’s proving Impossible as we can’t go to the shops to find one (shielding).

We’ve tried all our local (and further afield) independents. Earliest they can get them is late August. We have tried every morning on the Halfords website and everything is always gone. We’ve been able to get a few £800 bikes Hmm but our budget is more £150 ones. We also need them delivered built really. Although I guess I could get someone out to build them outside.

Can anyone suggest anywhere else we could try?

DH has a lot of bikes, and the ones that have been ordered online come in a big box and he has to put the pedals and various other bits on them, they don't come in one piece so you need to know a bit what you are doing, I would get a second hand one.

I agree with getting a second hand one.

Thanks for that. So I'd have to take it to a mechanic to have it assembled then.

You might have more luck getting it assembled in a bike shop, rather than asking a mechanic 🤷‍♀️

That's kind of what I mean - a mechanic working in a bike shop.

Mind you, they all seem overwhelmed with work these days so I think I'll postpone my purchase for a while. But then it'll be September and all the students going back to uni...

You have to put on the pedals, seat and front wheel usually and straighten the handlebars.
