What will happen when pubs, shops, restaurants etc are forced to close again? As there will be no furlough pay after October. Will people have to claim UC instead?

Or will everything just carry on like it is currently if there were 900 deaths a day again?

I was pondering this with DH earlier.

More likely local lockdowns as we can now quite effectively keep track on where cases are spiking. You lock them down quickly, it’ll prevent a mass country second wave.

Shops, schools etc will have to close during a local lockdown & currently I believe furlough has been given again in Leicester but I don’t think we have any clarification on if this would continue to be offered to all areas locking down as we go along..

I would image they will review the furlough scheme and try to extend it for organisations who meet a certain criteria.

It's unlikely we'll see another lockdown like this one, it's more likely there will be local lockdowns like Leicester to target areas where numbers are increasing. The government have pretty much said that now.
Furlough was designed to keep employers from making people redundant where possible. So without furlough, if companies have to close during a local lockdown and can't afford to pay staff not to work, they will be made redundant I would imagine.

There won't be another country wide lockdown, we simply can't afford it. As PP said it will be localised lockdowns if anything, probably with furlough only paid to businesses that are ordered to shut.

The government can't keep paying out and I think another total lockdown would be far harder second time around - probably colder weather and some won't want to go out so much for exercise/drink in the garden with a friend.

I think they'll be local lockdowns, so the majority of the country can carry on working and enjoy what they can within guidelines.
