What is it with some peoples entitlement during this global pandemic?

The cafes and restaurants are just opened. The pubs are opening and there's a huge sense of entitlement to go out and not only go out but to do so every weekend also along with foreign holidays and travelling has shown up to be high risk. For some people there is just no balance to their life and they want it all. Some people I know, unfortunately their priorities is not with their children or trying to keep safe and healthy for their childrens sake if anything else. Their priority is going out every weekend and continuing with holidays.

I'm someone who would be more than happy with a walk along a beach or staying in and working on laundry that had to be done instead of feeling entitled to go out every weekend.

We love the zoo too.. My son wants to be a zoo keeper bless him so he will be sooo happy! I am wondering if I could drop my laundry off on the way though. I have a f**k tonne... Hours of fun!

BigChocFrenzy · 06/07/2020 15:09

I've been going to the gym 5-6 days per week ever since they reopened on 16 May (I'm in Germany)
even though I'm 64 - cases & deaths are v low
and I presume Merkel wouldn't have reopened gyms if she didn't want us to use them ? Confused

Similar thing in the UK - would the govt really reopen stuff they didn't want you to use ?Confused

user68901 · 06/07/2020 15:12

I get the gold medal as this weekend not only did I take the dog for a walk but I also went to the pub and I did some laundry.

billybogeye · 06/07/2020 15:16

It would appear that it is a test on our resolve to see how much we will flock and flout and flaunt our entitledness but its ok, the op can see through that and point us in the right direction

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/07/2020 15:17

Good for you OP. Your life sounds dull to me and I'll continue to go out every weekend, I'll be going on holiday when I can.

Uhoh2020 · 06/07/2020 15:30

Pubs have been open 3 days! 3 days! If some people have been this weekend doesnt mean they're doing it every weekend. It's a good job not everyone feels the same as you OP as there would be nothing left of the hospitality or travel industry mean thousands more added to the already huge unemployment queue!

Good on you if you never want to travel or go to a pub or restaurant your ENTITLED to do that, just as those who do want to do those things are ENTITLED too also.

Mrskeats · 06/07/2020 15:32

Maybe some people feel that they would like to support local businesses and don't want more people unemployed.
We went to a locally owned restaurant for breakfast yesterday. The tables were well apart, no menus as you use the app and the staff used masks. It was lovely. I am sorry you feel entitled' to tell others what to do.

Jrobhatch29 · 06/07/2020 15:32

OP have you heard of netflix? If you don't want to go out it's more fun than laundry.... And it's how the rest of us spent lockdown when we weren't dragging kids on walks. I think you would enjoy Tiger King, sounds right up your street.

Serendipity79 · 06/07/2020 15:40

I've been indoors with my 4 kids since mid March. We've obeyed all the rules, we've barely left the house aside from a quick daily walk round the block. I'm working from home, I've had a pay cut, I've done my very best to try and homeschool my kids and I've somehow also managed to keep all of my housework on track.

I didn't go out this weekend to a pub or restaurant, but that was my own choice because I felt that lots of people would go out, and I'd like to see things settle before I attempt it. But in a few weeks me and the kids will be using our Merlin passes, we'll be heading off on a holiday somewhere in the UK and we'll be getting back to some of the activities that we did prior to lockdown.

The economy needs our money in order to survive. Its made my blood boil to read this post, and I'm a very even tempered person. Lockdown has significantly impacted my mental health, I am a single parent, I have literally been on my knees for the past few weeks and I can't ever remember being so flipping mentally exhausted in my life so I shall be "doing my laundry" on Friday night this week and then taking the kids out on a trip at the weekend.

Because I'm entitled to.

billybogeye · 06/07/2020 15:46

Serendipity79 laundry on a Friday? how very 2019 of you.

Uhoh2020 · 06/07/2020 15:47

Anyone else think this Is a wind up/troll thread seen as OP hasn't been back on it? Hmm

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 06/07/2020 15:49

Yep it's got to be a wind up.

Yes. No one would really rather do laundry than have an actual life.

I'm more inclined to think that they thought everyone was going to agree with their post and is now mortified that almost, maybe, every poster disagrees with them 😂
Educationwhateducation · 06/07/2020 15:59

I’ve been going for boring bloody walks in the only country park available to us for the past four months. I’ve also been doing the housework, which I loathe, homeschooling two primary aged children and working from home. I’ve been a good girl and stuck to the rule. Now that the government has eased restrictions, if I want to do a bit of browsing in M&S and sit in their cafe and have a coffee then I’ll damn we’ll do it.

Freedom of choice is a wonderful thing. I choose living (not existing) you’re choosing laundry 🤷‍♀️

MillyDilly · 06/07/2020 16:03

I think you’re the entitled one OP. You seem to think you have the right to police everyone else’s actions.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. The OP also started a thread about people being jealous of certain things (not the bloody laundry thought that's for sure).... and a few other threads so a regular and posts lots and lots of stuff.... not much else to do with themself though since only laundry for delights...maybe she should get out a bit like the people she is criticising.....?

She's rage ironing now 🤣

Boredbumhead · 06/07/2020 16:17

YANBU OP....

Springersrock · 06/07/2020 16:20

I’ve been walking on beaches and doing laundry for the last 4 months. My washing machine can fuck off now

I want to go to the pub, get pissed and buy a kebab on the way home.

Half our pubs didn’t open this weekend and I wasn’t organised enough to book a table for one of the ones that did open so I’m sure as hell going to the pub next weekend

BiBabbles · 06/07/2020 16:26

I agree with others that doing most of that doesn't seem entitlement. Some of the things that have come with it (like litter from drive-thru only sites in car parks) has been. I do have concerns about the safety of staff as things reopen so that people can make these choices.

My spouse works in hotels and they've had to do a quick change of which sites are opening when as some of what were going to open first can't because water safety failure. In my American hometown, custodial staff have fallen very ill, one death so far, due to trying to get some buildings - most hospitality, but it also included government buildings and schools - back into safe condition after a harsher lockdown than we had here, many to infections from water contamination.

For many of these sites to be open now, people have been working throughout to keep these sites safe. I hope they have been and continue to be well supported in their work and dealing with the minority of people who will act entitled and refuse to follow the new rules. I don't think it's entitled to use these services - some of us rely on them to eat - but it would be nice if people were a bit more considerate to those make those choices possible.

Graciebobcat · 06/07/2020 16:33

It's not entitled to go on holiday and go to the pub. These things are allowed, people can make their on risk assessments, and if no-one spends any money on this kind of thing many more businesses will fail.

Personally I'm a bit fed up with people making snide passive-aggressive virtue signalling comments on FB such as posting a status of "I don't care if you have been to the pub," obviously in response to other people posting about having enjoyed a drink. If you don't like the content of someone's post(s) based on your own personal likes and dislikes, either take them up on it in the comments or unfollow them.

thenightsky · 06/07/2020 16:44

I can proudly say that I have not ironed a single item of clothing since the day lockdown began.

thelikelylass · 06/07/2020 16:46

I went to sit in a cafe today for the first time in months - it felt great and lovely to see the staff in there. I have worked all the way through this. Are you working and/or commuting OP? 'Entitled' hardly - just healthy to get out away from my desk and have a coffee in a business I have supported before lockdown. I was also going to the pub tonight as it has reopened. My friend cancelled but I will go this week. I will also go away soon as I can. This is about living, keeping the local businesses (some my close friends) thriving. Oh and staying sane. I am so OVER people judging and shaming others constantly, people are rabid!

ResumetonormalASAP · 06/07/2020 16:50

@Jrobhatch29

Rage ironing...... I've never heard of that.... in fact I don't own an iron....how bad am I? Radical that is .....!
