Such heartbreaking news. I’ve been following Amanda on instagram and I felt sick when I read her update this morning. She was devoted to him, just by reading her posts, you could tell how in love they were. How sad for their dear baby, he’s just turned one. 💔

Keepdistance · 06/07/2020 18:07

So sad.
I really hope the knowledge of the clotting can help others avoid this.

Cocolapew · 06/07/2020 18:14

I had been following this too, such sad news.

ItsLeviooosar · 06/07/2020 18:21

Was the issue with his leg because the ecmo cannula was in the artery in his groin?

Goldistheanswer · 06/07/2020 19:10

I’ve just read on her instagram that she wants everyone to join her live at 11pm (GMT) tonight to sing Nick’s song, Live your life, one last time for him. 😢

So sad. This poor chap went through it. RIP.

Not to dismiss his death which is horribly tragic, it’s not that helpful to say ‘yet people still think this is flu & only kills the elderly’ .. flu kills too. And it kills the young sometimes. In fact common colds can kill. If they develop into something else. A young boy in the village I live almost died & lost limbs from sepsis that stemmed from a minor ear infection. It’s really shocked our local community. Unfortunately, it’s down to complete chance. And it’s the same with Covid. A huge majority who have died are elderly &/or have underlying conditions. But really really sadly, some young & healthy people will go on to develop complications that mean they don’t survive.

I do have a lot of hope in how much we now understand Covid, especially in terms of clotting & that ventilators aren’t always that helpful. It seems we are saving a lot more lives now & doctors say they are much more hopeful & prepared for the serious cases these days. Unfortunately for Nick & Kate’s husband, they were early, very serious cases and we just weren’t sure how to treat it.. Sad

RIP Nick. What he went through since entering hospital with Covid was absolutely horrifying. His poor wife and child 😢.

Comefromaway · 06/07/2020 22:22

Its incredibly tragic. My son's singing teacher worked with him on the cruise ships. He was a lovely person she says.

AngeloMysterioso · 06/07/2020 23:49

I’m not usually one to cry over the deaths of celebrities or strangers but this one has really hit me. Nick & Amanda got married 6 weeks after my husband and I did and their baby boy was just one month older than my DS is now when Nick held him for the last time. Seeing those pictures of Nick and Elvis and how happy they were just broke my heart. I can’t imagine the strength it must be taking for Amanda to get through such a horrific ordeal. RIP Nick and love and prayers for all his family

Didkdt · 06/07/2020 23:57

This really affected me today. He was high risk as he had type 1 diabetes, but like me in the shielding group that didn't mean he was living life under a rock he was living a full life and this came along placing him at greater risk than normal

He's my age he had a life to live. I found it wrenching when he took seriously ill and his death has further reinforced how this "bug" can take one and all no matter how positive things are looking.
I really hope his wife and son are left sufficiently provided for to grieve and develop at their own pace

Ilovesausages · 07/07/2020 04:03

I have also been following Amanda’s Instagram. I felt heartbroken when he died. After such a fight.

With regards to finances I also follow Zach Braff who was a good friend of Nick and Amanda and he has said that he will be making sure they will be ok financially.

sofato5miles · 07/07/2020 04:16

I wondered if he was diabetic. Poor, poor man and his family.

I live in an Arab country with high levels of diabetes and they released figures that 40% of deaths here are of patients who have it.

It really does you make you so vulnerable to this disease. So sad.

Peasinthefreezer · 07/07/2020 08:09

I don't think he was diabetic, article I read in NY Times said he had no known underlying medical conditions.

Its terribly heartbreaking, I had never heard of him but became aware of his battle via Zach Braff’s Instagram and started following Amanda. She was amazing through his battle, so sorry for her and their young son.

InglouriousBasterd · 07/07/2020 08:43

I don’t think he was diabetic, Amanda has been saying that he had no underlying conditions In a bid to make people take it more seriously. I can’t believe how well she’s holding it together.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/07/2020 08:59

I read that he became diabetic as part of his illness, issues with his pancreas.

It all sounds absolutely horrific
