Negative test but still worried

I started with a slight sore throat and temperature, feeling generally a bit unwell on Tuesday, I think whatever I picked up I would have picked up on the previous Friday.

Did the drive through test on Wednesday and got the negative result on thursday.

My throat has got a bit worse since and feel a bit yuck. Have been taking paracetamol since. Haven't had any for ages though and temperature was 37.8 when I took it.

Would you trust the negative result? Given I had symptoms of something and was done 5 days after possible exposure.

I'm panicking so much.

Yes I'd trust a test, why ever not 🤷‍♀️

Plenty of other lurgies in the world!

I just wondered if it was bordering on too soon to be accurate, although it said to test as soon as symptoms start and it was my second day of symptoms, 5 days after exposure- should be accurate right? It's not like I was tested when asymptotic like the regular testing of NHS staff or premier league footballers.

I'm just scared. I live with my parents and my kids and don't want them to catch it if I have it.

It should be up to day 5 of symptoms. I had a negative test and didn’t believe it then had an antibody test through work 6 weeks later and that too was negative so I do believe I had something else now! Out of the official numbers of people tested its about 10% are positive the test are negative so that shows that there really are still SO many other bugs out there. Hope you feel better soon!

Thankyou 💐 I don't even feel that unwell but everything is magnified at the moment isn't it. Thought we may have had it in March, my DC and I and my mum who is 60, and I wasn't so worried then even! Also had a horrendous cough in December and felt far worse. As a healthy person in early 30s I probably wouldn't even pay attention to how I'm feeling right now in normal times.

I think you still have to isolate after a negative test if you still have a temperature. A family friend tested negative many times when he was in icu on a ventilator, definitely was covid as his father passed away with a positive test.
