Track and trace question

I'm really confused by how track and trace works. I work in hospitality and am worried that when we re-open if a customer gets a positive test then all staff will have to isolate and then I will be on SSP and work survive financially.

Where I work all staff will be in face masks but I'm guessing most customers won't be. If staff are wearing face masks does this mean that they won't be contacted by track and trace? Sorry if this is obvious but I'm really confused by it all.

Track and trace won't know if you were in a mask.

If there is a confirmed case, and that person spent time in your workplace during their infectious period, then T&T will be establishing who was likely to have been close enough to be at risk. And yes, staff might have to quarantine, as might other customers.

If your workplace is Covid-safe,and your customers are compliant, then the chances of you being at risk are reduced.

But if you are adjudged at risk, whether it's from work, a cohabitee, a school contact, a group meeting for leisure, you will need to quarantine.

Everyone needs a plan for how they will survive for 14 days isolation on no notice. Because yes, the consequences will be disruptive and will affect income. But quarantine still has to be done.

Wearing a mask will mitigate having to isolate though?
Which is why its compulsory in hospitals otherwise there would be no staff left and businesses would all be closing down everytime there is a positive case.

@Dadnotamum72 People in hospitals in masks have negative tests under nhs testing currently, but I wonder this too. I'm staying with my child and we both had to isolate 24 hours until our tests came back as negative. I've yet to see a staff members face!
