Work have had a positive

Friend works in a local factory (not 1 that has been on the news) 1 member has tested positive, the company traced who this person has been in contact with and 30 people were sent home for tests. The 1s that have came back negative are back in work after 3 days off, others are still waiting for results. Am I wrong in thinking they still should isolate for at least 7 days. They could have only just come in contact so would still show up negative. So confusing.

I work in a school. I was there yesterday. This morning I got a phone call to say that one of the pupils has tested positive. Everyone in the bubble of 15 pupils and staff have to self-isolate for 14 days. They are year 1 and only started back last week. Feeling very fed-up today but I know I have to comply.

Thanks for replying. Everyone in there work has had to be social distancing and loads of measures put in place. This person who tested positive just thinks they are exempt from the rules and just carries on as normal. So unsure what the protocol actually is about still isolating.
Oh no have you all had to book in for a test. Hope all is OK x

I thought that everyone who had been in contact with a person who tested positive had to isolate for 14 days. Even the others who went on to have tests and test negative because they may be incubating the virus but it's too soon to show up as a positive.

How did the others get tested - on what grounds?
(I thought you had to have symptoms to be tested unless you were healthcare - could be wrong though)

Yes, those who have been in contact (within 2 metres) with a confirmed case should self isolate for 14 days from the last contact with the infected person. I suppose it's possible that they are back at work as it's already been14 days since their last contact? But if they are only back because they tested negative, but are still within the 14 day isolation period, they are not following the guidelines. It does also depend on the type of contact they had with the infected person. If they didn't come close (within 2 metres) whilst the infected person had symptoms or the 2 days before that, they would not have to self isolate.

No there last contact was last Wednesday, this person had a test Friday, results Sunday, all staff sent home Sunday to get tests. Not sure how they managed to get a test.
Yeah I thought the same about 14 day isolation as this is what I'm seeing and hearing on adverts and the radio. Obviously the factory just want everyone back ASAP.

Here are the details for the health and safety executive, they should be able to advise if your friend is able to go back to work.

It would still depend on when the person with the positive test first developed symptoms. Do you know when that was?

Many people won’t stay off work as they won’t get paid.
