Shielding and Refund

Has anyone managed to get a refund through travel insurance due to shielding guidance when their flights/holiday would still otherwise be going ahead in the next week or so?

We were hopeful Poland would extend the restrictions to the UK but they are now allowing UK travellers in once flights resume, making it more difficult to get a refund. We are due to go on the 15th July for 3 days and I presume Ryanair 🙄 flight is still going ahead as not heard of notice of cancellation.

Partner is shielding with govt letter and just wondering if anyone else has had success with claiming on insurance with the same predicament. Insurance isn't taking any calls unless due to travel in the next 7 days and can't find any specific detail on their website.

We had only booked flight (thank goodness) and travel insurance arranged sorted before CV was a "known event".

I would ask the GP for an "unfit to fly " note or whatever they call it (you'll probably have to pay for it) but check your insurance policy too as some will have pandemics in their T&Cs for exclusions
