Covid app suggesting a test

I had a short tummy bug thing two days ago and reported it on the covid app, which I complete daily as part of hospital research.

I received an email saying I should do a covid test with a link to gov.com website. Link was specifically for key workers which I am, coincidentally . They didn’t know that though so I assume I’d have been sent to that site whatever my job.

I tried to order a test. Was told to complete the scroll down section about why I was ordering a test by saying I was sent there by the app.

That option wasn’t given.

So I completed it as a teacher (not in school this week) Then I had to tick one or more of three symptoms, none of which matched the symptom I had and reported in the app (nausea, stomach cramps)

I’m now confused. Do I need a test or not? I’m better now and have no particular reason to think it was Covid.

The researchers are interested in matching test results to symptoms, so things like knowing how many tummy bug symptoms are reported that end in negative covid results as well as how many turn out to give positive ones. They're not only trying to find positive covid tests. So if you do a test, that will give them valuable information regardless of the result.

Was there a 'volunteer' option? I think the instructions I had said to select the 'volunteer' option although the page I was sent to didn't ask for that anyway. It won't matter though I shouldn't think. I would do the test, anyway.

Thanks - I’ll have another go at trying to order a test.
