Returning from MAT leave

I'm returning from 10 months on MAT leave tomorrow. What precautions should I take while at work and when I get home?

Head of operations, network planning and scheduling for a major UK airline. Work in a large office and they are still doing meetings (my biggest worry) in person where everybody is in the same room.

Have they made adjustments to ensure staff safety? Have they communicated anything to you?

I think you need to talk to them about what additional Health & Safety measures they have put in place in view of Coronavirus.

Where do you work?
I was changing my clothes at the door a few weeks ago and washing hands but I was having contact with lots of people many of who straight from hospital.
Now I'm seeing less people, wear full PPE when I do but when i get home i usually just wash my hands now.
If you're in an office desk job, keeping social distance you will probably want to wash your hands. If you're a frontline nurse or at a supermarket checkout you may want to change your clothes.
Your employer should give you guidance on this if there is any risk due to your job.

I suspect your employer will have things in place, have you discussed your return with them? I would expect there to be a conversion before now about your return, I have already had contact from my employer and I'm not due back for 2 more months and won't be office based.

There are the general hand hygiene, no face touching and avoid close physical contact, maintain social distance, face coverings if required/you want to, then change your clothes when you get home but really you should be asking your employer what measures they put in place.

They have communicated fuck all to me and said I would "be briefed on Monday morning". Friend/colleague says its impossible to social distance in meetings as theres not enough room. Part of my job involves spending part of the day in our operations centre and I can't social distance in their as I wouldn't be able to do my job properly. And to top it all off the person I covering my role has made some shit decisions that I need to now try and fix

Frequent hand washing is your first and most important thing, particularly after touching high frequency spots, door handles, printer, etc.

Wear a face mask in areas where social distancing is difficult.

I would take food and drinks from home if possible.

Don’t take anything home with you from the office.

If you want to be extra cautious when you get home take a shower and change your clothes.

I’d be really surprised if they have made no adjustments. Major corporations have whole teams working on this stuff, as well as the employee comms that goes with it.

Also you’ve been quite specific in your role. Just pointing out that it could potentially be outting and if someone from your employer spots this you may not be too popular!

I agree with Lilybet1980s post above, this will be very outing, and as soon as you mentioned major UK Airline, I thought of British Airways, Virgin or Easyjet so be careful

I'm going back in August after a year off. I'm a dental nurse and will wash and shower as soon as I come in and put my scrubs on a 60 egree wash immediately.

I think for anyone working in an office it’s probably very hard to socially distance all the time. It may be that because your colleagues have been working through this for months now this is just the new norm for them. You may notice more changes than you are expecting.

Good luck with your return. I’m due back myself in a few months time and I have to say I’m pretty nervous. Feels like the whole world has moved on, I feel very left behind. Hopefully you will soon settle back in and quickly feel more comfortable with how things are working.

I hope I just settle in and feel comfortable again. Gonna be one hell of a ride though trying to fix the mistakes made by the person covering my role. Worst for me will be when we are all crammed into a meeting room, I really won't feel safe then

I can't socially distant either. Right next to a patient and a dentist 😫
