Restaurants?!

When restaurants re-open will you go?

Are the staff going to have to wear masks to serve you, and what about the chefs?

God I hope not. A restaurant meal is meant to be a treat, and the idea of being served by people in PPE is completely unappetising.

OneHanded · 27/06/2020 14:07

Can’t wait. Not bothered either way with PPE.

Lemonmaid · 27/06/2020 14:07

Not for a long time, and especially not buffet style restaurants.

AllsortsofAwkward · 27/06/2020 14:10

BananaPop2020 it's there right to wear PPE and doesn't affect you're food. We were served some creams at the strawberries picking family and they had ppe on we didnt batter an eyelid.

Mother40 · 27/06/2020 14:11

I love eating out, but can't see that I will want to for some time yet. Any worries would spoil the experience for me.

BananaPop2020 · 27/06/2020 14:13

@AllsortsofAwkward I know it’s their right, I didn’t dispute that. I just answered the question!

Fiddlemesticks · 27/06/2020 16:51

If they want to, I don't mind them wearing them. But I agree that eating out is a treat, and will be a much needed one after all this, and so I wouldn't want them to be wearing grubby cotton ones like the woman in my nearest corner shop. That might slightly put me off my food. Nothing against cotton masks (that's what I'm using) but keep them clean if you're working with food.

I've booked a babysitter for the 24th July as it's our anniversary, just trying to decide which restaurant we'd like to go to. Can't wait.

LilyPond2 · 27/06/2020 19:30

Nope, no plans to set foot in a restaurant any time soon. Eating out is supposed to be an enjoyable treat, and worry about contracting the virus would just ruin the experience for me. I'm not in the "not until there's a vaccine" camp, but I wouldn't contemplate eating out unless the risk of contracting Covid-19 was remote. Current rates mean the risk is far from remote, and with the mass opening up from July, plus many individuals choosing to deny the risk altogether and refusing to even take such basic precautions as wearing masks in busy places, I think we will soon see infection rates rising again.

FrugiFan · 27/06/2020 19:37

I probably wont be going to a restaurant but then I didnt really do that much anyway, and I have a small breastfed baby now so unlikely to have evening out anytime soon. I am, however, looking forward to going to our local cafe for lunch and would not be concerned whether staff wear PPE or not - as long as the tables are spaced out so we dont have to get close other customers. The staff will only be in contact with us for a minute or so at a time so chance of passing anything on is minimal.

okiedokieme · 27/06/2020 19:49

I've booked a table for the 4th! Actually outdoors under the overhang by patio heater (we are in England!)

LockdownLou · 27/06/2020 19:51

Might go for my birthday in August. Might not. I’ve never been fussed on restaurants to be honest so not that bothered.

I know people who literally cannot wait for them to open.

maddy68 · 27/06/2020 19:54

I would only go IF they were wearing masks. I don't want then coughing over me or my food

nildesparandum · 27/06/2020 19:59

They are queuing round the block at the take-aways so it will be sheer hell when the cafes open
No thanks

WallsKOL · 27/06/2020 20:18

maddy68 @ we don’t want customers coughing over us either thanks

WallsKOL · 27/06/2020 20:25

@maddy68 because the customers are better than the servers ?

Meredithgrey1 · 27/06/2020 20:46

Yep I'll go. Id prefer to eat somewhere where staff get the choice on masks. Don't have an issue being served by someone not in one and don't like the idea of people being forced to not wear them if they want to

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/06/2020 20:50

Table already booked!
Masks won’t bother me in the least. I am sort of expecting it but not bothered if they’re not, as long as staff aren’t being expected to put themselves at risk to protect the delicate sensibilities of customers.

canyon2000 · 27/06/2020 21:26

I've booked lunch at a gastro pub for me and dh on the 7th July. The pub is in a village near us and we will walk over with the dog and sit in the garden and have a few beers and food that I haven't cooked, for the first time in 4 months. Can't wait!!

My0My · 27/06/2020 21:30

Just booked Nathan Outlaw for Sept and Paul Ainsworth for July!!! Yay!!! Cannot wait.

HowFastIsTooFast · 27/06/2020 21:38

Where we live restaurants have been open for outdoor dining since early June, and we've eaten out a few times. Some staff wearing full PPE, some just gloves, doesn't affect the experience either way, with a lot of friends in the hospitality sector we've just been glad to see them open and offer our support.

Indoor restaurants are just opening now, our favourite opens Wednesday and we're booked for Saturday night. May help that the manager is a good friend and ex-flatmate of mine so I feel very comfortable in his presence regardless of circumstance.

maddy68 · 27/06/2020 21:59

@WalsKol absolutely the staff need to be protected. That's what I mean. If everyone is safer then I would go. However the server is the person delivering my food and drink and I would be very anxious If they didn't wear a mask
