Most pubs not opening on 4th July?

Bramblebear92 · 26/06/2020 12:30

I just had a Google and so far I can't find a single pub in my area (which has tons of pubs) which is opening on 4th of July. Is this likely because pubs haven't been given adaquate notice and is this happening in other places? I'm wondering if restaurants will be the same too actually.

Most seem to be re-opening end of July.

Not so round our way. Signs and banners everywhere advertising “official”reopening day of 4th July.
I say “official” as most have been open on the quiet anyway.

whatisforteamum · 26/06/2020 14:11

The pub I work for is later in july. Some of their other ones are.opening first to see how the new rules apply.
I think it is also to avoid the.ridiculous rush which. Will result in people being turned away.

I've checked two locally - one is opening on 4th and the other on the 11th.

AskingforaBaskin · 26/06/2020 14:32

Not all pubs in the company my husband works for are opening 4/7
No pubs in Wales will be opening.
Do you live near a city?

CountFosco · 26/06/2020 14:34

We've had a restaurant booked for our wedding anniversary in July for months and they've just contacted us to say they won't be open. I guess with lower density the profit margin will drop.

Bramblebear92 · 26/06/2020 14:35

I live in Richmond (SW London.) I was just quite surprised, as whilst I didn't expect them all to open their doors instantly, I'm surprised that none of them are!

We've booked to go to our favourite on the 5th, can't wait!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 26/06/2020 14:38

My dad's opening on the 4th, but he will be on reduced stock as he's cleared near all his barrels over the past few months doing "bring a bottle to fill" for the customers. He's got to wait until the 9th for a delivery from the brewery.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 14:44

I wondered how the seating and collecting names etc would influence this. Must be difficult to enforce and customers may not be happy.

LtJudyHopps · 26/06/2020 14:58

Pubs have been preparing for this with printing distancing stickers etc, but I don’t know how it works with brewers. Were they waiting for official confirmation before ordering wet stock? So now can’t get a delivery for a while due to demand?
I know Greene King are starting to open from the 6th, their staff didn’t feel comfortable opening on a sunny Saturday with football on.

Our village pub is reopening on July 4th.

They’ve set up a one way system, through front door, to seats in bar, dining room or garden, Loos are next to back door, then leave via beer garden gate. If you want a second drink, you need to go out through the garden, round the road and back into the bar. Grin

All customers are asked to bring paper with email address on which they drop into a tub when entering. Card payments only.
But they’ve been serving food and beer to take away for three months so they’ve had time to practice.

Most are here, only city centre bars are delaying because they can't see social distancing even 1m

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 15:07

Some people such as my old dad would not have email, take it they would give a phone number. Sounds very easy to not comply with

Wonder how many different email addresses they'll end up with for Mickey Mouse, and Lord Lucan.

FizzyPink · 26/06/2020 15:11

I’m surprised our local haven’t posted anything yet. They’ve got two massive beer gardens so seems strange for them to not be planning on reopening ASAP. I walked past this morning and it’s totally dead inside, no signs of plans being made.

Mintjulia · 26/06/2020 15:18

That’s what I thought. Although to be fair, it’s a village pub. If they need to, they can run through the cctv and identify most people by name.

LtJudyHopps · 26/06/2020 15:20

Why do they need/want email addresses?

Bramblebear92 · 26/06/2020 15:36

I'm surprised because there's a lot of outdoor space around here/beer gardens so I would have thought at least these ones would open on the 4th. One of my favourite pubs here is actually one where you have your drinks outside anyway, as it overlooks a stunning view. But it's a Green King, I think, so guess it figures.

My boyfriend was super excited about going to the pub on the 4th...guess he's going to be disappointed Grin

They need contact details for test and trace as you won't be able to social distance properly so would be a possible contact if someone else becomes ill

Uhoh2020 · 26/06/2020 16:05

My local club is opening on the 4th but open day is invite only for paying Members/regulars only.

Caz1960 · 26/06/2020 16:32

“ They need contact details for test and trace as you won't be able to social distance properly so would be a possible contact if someone else becomes il”

I wonder if that’s got anything to do with my local Tesco selling out of PAYG SIM cards? Or am I just being a conspiracy nut? 😂

ohthegoats · 26/06/2020 16:35

Sounds like a plan! Saturday would be the same as that last night when everything went into lockdown.

Lemons1571 · 26/06/2020 16:38

How does it work though? If a tracer calls you up and says “you might have been in close contact with a confirmed case in Ye Olde Tavern, but we can’t tell you who”. How could you confirm back to them, whether you’d had 15 minutes of close contact? You don’t even know who they’re talking about? Surely they don’t force every single punter in there to isolate for a fortnight?

LeggyLinda · 26/06/2020 16:43

I suppose they must do Lemons. Or at least ask them to monitor for symptoms or take a test.
