Child vomiting slight temp

My child has been vomiting and has a slight temperature. She seems ok in herself.

I had understood the self isolating rules to mean that you needed to self isolate if you have two or more symptoms, but looking now it seems that you have to self isolate even with just one symptom, ie the temperature.

Is this right? Please can someone confirm my understanding. Thanks.

I'm sure it's just one symptom. You can also all get tested. Hope child is better soon.

First you all need to isolate. Get a test for your child as they have a temperature, one of the 3 symptoms. Assuming test comes back negative all returns to “normal”, if your child tests positive all those in your household have to continue to self isolate for 14days. You all won’t be tested unless you have symptoms. Test track and trace would be in touch and you tell them who else your child has come into close contact with eg school if they’ve been or/as well as let them know yourself. Most likely test will be negative but still have to go through the whole process.

Is there any way they have food poisoning or a stomach bug? That can also cause a fever. Still self isolate until a test is carried out and wait til you receive the results. Hope your little one feels better soon x

You need to self isolate (all of you) for 14 days. Or you can get your child tested if they are old enough to cope with the swabbing (makes you gag so maybe wait til vomiting has stopped).

surely you can all get tested if one family member has symptoms?

There's not much point getting tested if you are asymptomatic @Crowded. The test cant tell you if you have caught it but wont get sick til next week. So if OPs child is positive, other family members getting negative tests wont show that they are uninfected. In our house my dh got sick 10 days after me, and ds1 10 days after that.

Thanks all. I've booked a test for this afternoon so fingers crossed that will help resolve things one way or another. The whole household will self isolate in the meantime.

More likely to be slight sunstroke in this heat? Hopefully you'll get a negative result.

@damnthis thanks, she's still poorly (we ended up in A&E) but definitely on the mend.

We took her to a drive through testing site yesterday and I've just received a message to say the result is negative. Which is great as no more isolating.

It's a faff getting a stomach bug (or any other virus) at the minute!

Thanks to everyone for advice- I had no idea that anyone could be tested and we would have all self isolated for 14 days had it not been for MN!
