self-isolating pre-surgery - advice needed

I received a call from my local hospital earlier, booking me in for a minor surgical procedure in 2 weeks' time. I was told I needed to self-isolate from tomorrow - allowed out only to exercise, and only allowed to see/be with members of my own household. But I am in a household with 3 others, all of whom are going out each day, within the remit of the updated guidelines. My question is, is it just me that needs to isolate, or does the entire household have to stay home for the next 2 weeks? If you can advise, please do asap as DH is due to go to work in London tomorrow morning...

I’m currently isolating due to upcoming cancer surgery. My entire household has had to isolate — can’t leave our property other than for my Covid test. Have to isolate for two weeks after too, though I’ll check on surgery day if that’s still required.

I just had a minor surgical procedure last week, and was told the whole household had to isolate for 14 days before, literally not leaving the house, not even for exercise.

How on earth is this doable with Jobs.

I was told by the hospital that people who hadn’t done this found their surgery cancelled on the day....

My partner had surgery for a tumour yesterday. He wasn't told to isolate, although we were told to 'go careful'. So we just carried on as normal - both worked from home (which meant I didnt' go in to school), our child went to school in her bubble but we didn't hang out anywhere much on the school run. He had a COVID test on Sunday and had to isolate completely after that until he went into hospital yesterday. They told him that if he hadn't had his result as negative by 7am, then he had to sit in the car and wait until someone called him about it.

Seems different places are doing different things.

It's not. Also if you do manage it what if surgery cancelled on the day? So just tick the box and say you've done it they won't know any different

That would be the height of selfishness and stupidity.

What other option is there? Not everyone can wfh or afford 2 wks unpaid absence

I’ve not been told I have to wait for results before going in. Eek.

Covid has really demonstrated how entitled and selfish some people are.

If you can't isolate, the place can be given to someone else who will.

I'm sorry but as I said. Not everyone can wfh or take a fortnight unpaid.

Meaning some people can't get treatment because of their circumstances?

Please, I really didn't want my post to cause argument or unpleasantness. I realise I need to get back in touch with my hospital tomorrow for clarification as it does seem there are some local variations in the rules. I really appreciate your responses and links to information. Take care, everyone.

There are different rules for different hospitals because some sites are Covid green, so those sites are the ones where you and your whole household have to self isolate (properly not leaving the house) for 14 days. Employers are varying in what they’re offering people who have to do it and can’t work from home - unpaid leave / SSP / sick pay.

People can't afford it. They'll have to lie

@runner2 my friend has been able to self isolate so her family don't have to.

@EnlightenedOwl if people lie causing a hospital outbreak, services will be stopped, so more people will have treatment delays.

Whatever I would just tick the box. It's all over reaction and unnecessary anyway

My colleague died of Covid, she caught it while working in the NHS, she was living in hospital accommodation so she didn't pose a risk to her family. She was brilliant, she had a DD, DS and DH.

Please stop posting upsetting and inaccurate nonsense.

I would follow the self isolate conditions, I absolutely would not lie. It would be hard (I may need a small surgery soon), but I cant keep my family in not even being able to go for a walk.
