Will research now slow down??

.. now that restrictions are being eased (not going into whether this is right or wrong everyone has their own opinion), and many people think that Corona is "over" or at least they do where I am.

Does this mean less research will be ongoing as regards to treatments, how the virus behaves, risk factors??

That would concern me. I was glad when I read the breakthrough on the cheap steroid.

Not sure how these things work, but I really hope the same intensity of research is kept up.

No, of course not. Thats a daft assumption to make. Just society thinking this over (or so you think), the scientists don’t think that at all. Cases are shooting up in countries that haven’t yet had peaks & it’s still circulating in society here. Life cannot go back to normal until there is a vaccine or effective drugs or by some miracle the whole world squashes the virus (ain’t gona happen). So rest assured, extensive research will continue!

To be honest, we should be more concerned at the fact cancer research has lost serious funding & researchers in place of corona. A good friend works in breast cancer research & her whole team has been furloughed.

Corona will end (or there’ll be a vaccine or treatment). Cancer won’t. That scares me so much more.

No research will continue and will not just be for Covid-19 it will be continuous in case it's needed to adapt to future Covid-19 mutations.

Of course not, why would it?
I hope research is able to start back up properly into non Covid illnesses, too. Those things haven’t gone away.

Also there will be plenty of research reporting back that was started months ago but takes time.

No my ds who is shielding is signed up for research which is funded for a year looking at how covid-19 effects those who are very vulnerable.
I do think results will be slower to see with fewer cases but research is going on all over the world so progress will continue. I'd be more concerned about other health care research being stopped/reduced.

I wasn't making any assumptions.

Merely hoping that research won't be slowed down just because there seems to be a lull in cases and restrictions are being lifted.

And wondering if anyone who knew about such things could contribute. Hopefully to say that no, research will continue at the same pace.

Restrictions being lifted has no bearing on medical research. The priority remains to find an effective vaccine or treatment. Don’t forget that many restrictions are still in place and we’re nothing like ‘back to normal’.
