Are the unions going to kick off about back to school in September?

Is there going to be a big hoo ha from the unions about the "everyone back to school at full capacity" announcement from the PM today?

Any teachers on here care to give a view?

@hashtagbollocks

Didn't one of the teaching unions tell its headteachers not to engage with the government about how to make the return possible? that wasn't exactly trying their best was it? OP I don't know why you're getting a hard time: the unions have made themselves very very unpopular with their attitude amongst all the people I know.
They didn't

But you and the OP enjoy the rubbish that you are spreading.

Itisasecret · 23/06/2020 14:52

Nicola has just confirmed that the plan is Scotland return full time for all in August too.

CallmeAngelina · 23/06/2020 15:01

I've tried not to be rude about it but asked what I thought was a reasonable question.
No, you gave your goady intent away by use of the term, "kick off."

bengalcat · 23/06/2020 15:04

OP used the words hoo ha not kick off .

The height of goady fuckery. I wish HQ would stop this shit.
hamstersarse · 23/06/2020 15:06

Teachers and their unions are beyond any critical analysis, didn’t you know OP? Confused

noblegiraffe · 23/06/2020 15:06

OP can you post the tweet about the NEU claiming that it stopped primary kids going back to school? I can’t find it.

And it wasn’t the NEU that stopped it, it was the fact that there weren’t any classrooms to put the kids in or teachers to teach them.

If you could also point to schools that haven’t reopened due to union strike action etc, that would be helpful.

itsgettingweird · 23/06/2020 15:07

Ds college have already announced blended learning until 2021 whatever government say.
That's including for children like him on an EHCP for support. They are not budging. He can book sessions in learning support and lsa will attended lesson via teams with him to help.

So that'll be facilitating his learning then - even if they open

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2020 15:09

I have come back in now after a meeting. Boris Johnson was not very precise in what he said. He will say anything to please big business.

I am still waiting for the tweet to be revealed in its full glory.
I am NASUWT so won't have seen this tweet.

Our head called our union reps obstructive for asking questions about soap and hand sanitiser and bins. Any question I have seen a union asking has been measured, sensible and based on what the DfE guidelines say and how they are being ignoredimplemented.

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2020 15:12

Yes, it was hoo ha : not so much goady as dismissive an denigrating their work to protect their members. I guess any other union work is a hoo ha. I think Trump called BLM a brouhaha or something last week.

I think care to give a view si a bit aggressive , too, personally. But accept probably not intentionally so.

Did you really want teachers' views though, OP? Really?

Hmm you may want to re-read the OP's thread title?

I'm really bored of goady threads like this one, and feel really sorry for the teachers who read and must feel so deflated.

iamapixie · 23/06/2020 15:19

I hope not. I also hope that people will begin to understand the statistics a bit better now that the government has finally given a clearer lead which the media may then follow so that the appalling and irresponsible level of clickbait scaremongering will start to drop, and hopefully people's anxiety levels will be a little lower and a more realistic risk assessment can be made by more people.

Just reread thread title, so now we have kick off, hoo ha , and care to...

Check out the thread title.
Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2020 15:26

The unions have commented. They are asking for clarity ,entirely fairly, given a 1 m rule still affects class size. Can't say they are kicking off.

It's a bit like when someone minimises a valid complaint by calling it a moan.

Flippetydip · 23/06/2020 15:28

I'm sorry for anyone I offended with my original language. I'm sorry for teachers that I've offended by suggesting that you go back to work in what you perceive as an unsafe environment. I'm genuinely sorry for you that you are that fearful of doing your job.

I will wait and see what happens and won't start any further discussions. As a PP said, teaching and unions are obviously hallowed ground that we are not permitted to critique. Point taken.

Blimey - a goady non apology to round off a thoroughly goady thread. Well done @flippetydip

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/06/2020 15:32

Thank you @Flippetydip

CallmeAngelina · 23/06/2020 15:32

@Rainbow12e

It's what I said on here the other day. All schools back full-time and wraparound care
Rainbow, I suppose you deserve credit for persistence. Do you really think that keep saying everything is going to be back to normal when you want it to be, means it's going to happen?
ElizabethMainwaring · 23/06/2020 15:33

Oh hang on, what is this with the hallowed ground stuff?

That was looking like it was going well - until the sting in the tail. Teaching and unions are NOT "obviously hallowed ground" and it is not that you are "not permitted to critique."
MitziK · 23/06/2020 15:34

@hashtagbollocks

wow, you must be really unlucky as there are now something like 15 deaths a day for the whole country
Consequences of living in one of the original hotspots, innit? Lots of people dead before it hit other regions and the old people's homes.

You mean ‘if I talk bollocks I’ll be taken to task’, which is the MN way. Your thread isn’t immune.
