Are the unions going to kick off about back to school in September?

Is there going to be a big hoo ha from the unions about the "everyone back to school at full capacity" announcement from the PM today?

Any teachers on here care to give a view?

@Wishforsnow

The head at my DD's school said that the unions were being very unhelpful as they are trying to get more years back now.
I’d be very concerned about sending my children to a school led by a headteacher as unprofessional as this. Whatever problems a/he is having about making the workplace safe for his staff, it shouldn’t be communicated to parents like this.
DomDoesWotHeWants · 23/06/2020 14:05

I said days ago he was setting up teachers to take the blame for the schools not opening fully.

The man lies like other people breathe, why believe a word he says?

Teachers are as entitled as hairdressers and everyone else to a safe workplace. This means social distancing. Why do people think they are not entitled to a safe workplace?

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2020 14:06

Primary and secondary education will recommence in September with full attendance

Ok a start. Confirm hours etc

@Flippetydip

I'm not at all, by the way, arguing that this has been handled well by the government. It hasn't, in any way shape or form.

But I feel that children have been thrown under a bus and to have had a national teaching union celebrating their success of not getting as many children back to school as they can looks poor. And no, that's not from the press, it's from the NEU's own twitter feed.

I’ve seen the tweet, it was celebrating the union protecting its members. You know - it’s core purpose. You don’t like unions, your husband isn’t in one and would never strike (although happy to take any improvements in working conditions the rest of us fight for). Stop being an arse.

@Piggywaspushed

I'd also welcome the source of your knowledge about what exactly The PM will announce today.
It was announced at 1230 today. Might be worth checking.

I think the OP is keen for her dh to get back into work. Doubtless he is also keen to be back in to get away from her.

The weird thing is that they are also doing things that contradict what they say is going to happen.

All the while setting up schools, teachers and unions for idiots to blame for whatever goes wrong.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 23/06/2020 14:14

being proud that they had managed to stop children returning to school

If there's any pride it's in doing their duty to protect their members, nothing to do with children at all. I'm sick of having to prove my love of my job and the children I teach. Just because teachers want safe working conditions doesn't mean we don't care about education!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 23/06/2020 14:15

Well said Twinkle👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

But we are all lazy and the unions are evil..... obvious innit?😡

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 23/06/2020 14:18

Oh, and we are childcare too. Forgot that...

Wellhowyoudoin · 23/06/2020 14:20

Goady fuck OP. How dare people ask for safe working conditions? Hmm

Wellhowyoudoin · 23/06/2020 14:21

Getting very bored of government plants with their anti teacher posts. I’d love to go to the dentist but don’t keep posting about that

Artus · 23/06/2020 14:22

Think you got your answer OP!

Wellhowyoudoin · 23/06/2020 14:23

How long till the next thread? It’s almost like there’s an agenda being pushed. Ah well, better luck with the next one Confused

First thing I'm going to have to do when I'm back is check which kids have had relatives they live with die and, if possible, whether it was in the 3 weeks or so following my absence from school due to a 'severe respiratory virus' I picked up (from one of the many unwell secondary school pupils I was in extended close contact with in the preceding month).

I'm going to try and not think about the ones where I might have been the person who passed it on to the pupil in the first place because I didn't have a cough and only began to feel properly unwell on the last day.

I think trying to protect staff and students' families is something to want to kick off over, personally. It's important.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 23/06/2020 14:38

And l think 68 school staff have died. The majority secondary school teachers and TA’s

hashtagbollocks · 23/06/2020 14:40

Didn't one of the teaching unions tell its headteachers not to engage with the government about how to make the return possible?
that wasn't exactly trying their best was it?
OP I don't know why you're getting a hard time: the unions have made themselves very very unpopular with their attitude amongst all the people I know.

luckily for you the chances are very very slim so don't worry about it.

Thanks, yes they did, hence my questions.

I've tried not to be rude about it but asked what I thought was a reasonable question. I've been called a "goady fuck" and an "arse" and told that my husband obviously wants to go back to school to get away from me. I would have hoped people could have engaged politely but hey ho, there we go.

Can anyone point to the unions stopping schools going back? My school has kids in, my DC’s school has kids in, I heard of some LAs and councils not going back because of local R rates. Have there been strikes?

We're in one of the top five hotspots for deaths.

One of my friends has died and one has been in intensive care with it. I already know of several other deaths not in the 'old person/at the end of their natural lifespan' category and of several colleagues who were hospitalised.

It's not as remote a chance in some areas, unfortunately.

hashtagbollocks · 23/06/2020 14:51

wow, you must be really unlucky as there are now something like 15 deaths a day for the whole country

SmileEachDay · 23/06/2020 14:51

OP

Do you have any idea how wearing it is reading posts like this.

The unions aren’t a separate entity to teachers. So your post is just yet another post having a pop at teachers.

Just stop.
