Smear tests: still happening?

Had my letter from the national screening programme saying my smear test is due. Rang GP and they said they are still not doing them. I’m in England and I thought there had not been a stop on routine screening. Anyone know if this is a national thing or just surgery specific?

Surgery-specific - I had mine a few weeks ago.

Mine were all postponed but last week they allowed booking. Mine is booked in for the end of the month. Give them a ring and ask.

Ok thanks for that. I may email the Practice Manager and just ask when they will be restarting them and if no plan what’s the reason. I have no particularly worries, but I have 3 friends who had pre-cancerous cell changes detected from smear so I know how important they are.

I got a call last week to say I was overdue and booked an appointment.

It was stupid to stop them in the first place. People don't sneeze or cough out of that end! Fortunately I am mid-way between mine and not due until late 2021.

Originally booked for April but moved for obvious reasons. Rang me 3 weeks ago to rearrange.

I had to wear a face mask.

Also they have said I can now boom to have my coil fitted.

Thanks for the reminder I got my letter a day or 2 into lockdown so just didn’t bother as my surgery has been closed to physical patients. Will ring now and see if I can book

I rang this morning and they said they're making appointments for smear tests again from next week.

I had mine last week. Very strange walking into a deserted surgery and I had my appointment at another local surgery rather than mine, but seamless none the less. Had my blood pressure and weight done as well as part of my pill check up.

My go surgery rang me on Monday to offer me sppointment- I got my letter on Tuesday so they are being proactive and even beat that!

Quick update. Rang back GP they are still not booking them in, but I was able to book into the weekend Hub at the old Cottage Hospital (not sure what’s its official title is now). So off on Saturday.

I had mine done last week, had to wear masks and nurse in PPE but it was fine. She told me they started up again 7th June.

Yes, got to wear a mask and wait in car till told to come in.
