To test or not to test.

I’ve read so many different variations of symptoms but I don’t really fit the government guidelines.

I feel like I have hay fever symptoms as follows

Slight headache and sinus pressure that tends to appear in the evenings.
Alternating tickly / slightly sore throat
Slightly runny nose.
Feeling extra tired and heavy headed - could close my eyes and nap at any time of day.
Occasional hot cheeks / feeling of being warm but I check my temp and it’s not elevated.

Would you bother with a test or not?

This is exactl,y how i feel and did home test today, bit of dodgy tummy too. Pretty sure its a cold but wanted to be sure before i see my grandparents in their garden

CrunchyCarrot · 22/06/2020 21:53

Have you tried taking an antihistamine in case it is hayfever?

Merthyr1908 · 22/06/2020 22:04

I haven’t taken a antihistamine, I stupidly hadn’t thought of that.

I should add that occasionally I get a flat, slightly metallic taste in my mouth too. I haven’t lost taste or smell though.

Thank you, I’ll have a read now.

I was going to suggest hayfever too - I have all those symptoms at the moment from it.

ds2019 · 22/06/2020 22:11

I think a test is a good idea.
Sore throat, metallic taste and fatigue have been reported as symptoms even without cough and fever.

Gotobloodysleep · 22/06/2020 22:14

Ive had exactly the same symptoms as this for a week now. I went and got tested on Friday, they came back negative on Saturday.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 22/06/2020 22:15

I recently reported a sore throat in the ZOE app and it flagged this up to get a test. When I spoke to the testing helpline they adv

Continuation, pressed send too soon.
The testing helpline told me to test/ self isolate with cold symptoms. With your symptoms I would definitely get tested. It's really easy and quick.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 22/06/2020 22:18

What's the downside of getting a test and finding out for sure?

What does it say when you put your symptoms into the NHS website?

I had a dreadful sore throat and a tickly cough, evenings only. Never got tested but my mum who I see a lot of had the same symptoms and has just paid for an anyibody test, it shows she has had it.

holidaydisaster2020 · 22/06/2020 22:22

The thing is that tests are readily available now and, whilst uncomfortable, fairly quick and easy to do. So I think anybody who's wondering wether to test or not should just go ahead and do one. It's the socially responsible thing to do and will set your mind at rest.

anothermansmother · 22/06/2020 22:23

I had similar symptoms but put mine down to hayfever. When I asked for a presentation of more antihistamines from my doctor she asked for symptoms and I was told to go get a test. I'm booked in for tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's quick as I can't even walk the dog now until I have the all clear. A lady I work with tested positive last week ( I haven't been in work so no where near her) and she was surprised as she's only left the house twice since lockdown.

goldpendant · 22/06/2020 22:27

Should add that my symptoms were at the start of lockdown when testing wasn't available.

Bol87 · 22/06/2020 22:31

I had your exact symptoms & got tested. I had a couple medical appointments the following week & felt it was sensible. I was tested Sat morning & results by 11pm Sat evening! Was negative. I def caught some kinda virus as I felt really naff for a good week. All better now though!
